Google Ads Recommendations

list_recommendations
Read-onlyIdempotent

Lists Google's campaign recommendations + optimization score, WITH PROJECTED IMPACT (estimated +conversions / +clicks / +cost if the recommendation is applied). Filter by rec_type (e.g. 'KEYWORD', 'CAMPAIGN_BUDGET','TARGET_CPA_OPT_IN'); include_dismissed=true also returns dismissed ones. The returned resource_names are passed to apply_recommendation / dismiss_recommendations.

TDQS

A4.1/5.0
Behavior4/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Annotations already declare readOnlyHint/idempotent/non-destructive, so the safety profile is covered. The description adds real behavioral value beyond that: what the payload contains (optimization score, projected impact) and that resource_names are the handles for follow-up write tools.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness4/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

Three tight sentences, front-loaded with the core capability and the projected-impact differentiator, then filters, then downstream routing. Heavy capitalization is slightly noisy but no sentence is wasted.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness4/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

With an output schema present, the description needn't detail return shapes, yet it usefully highlights resource_names as the actionable output. Combined with the filter guidance, an agent has enough to call it correctly; only the limit parameter and pagination expectations remain unaddressed.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters3/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema description coverage is 0%, so the description must carry parameter meaning. It documents rec_type (with example enum-like values) and include_dismissed semantics, but says nothing about customer_id or the limit/default page size, leaving two of four parameters unexplained.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose5/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

States a specific verb (Lists) and resource (Google's campaign recommendations + optimization score) and immediately signals the unique value (projected impact in conversions/clicks/cost). It clearly separates itself from apply_recommendation and dismiss_recommendations, which consume the resource_names it returns.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines4/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

Gives concrete usage context: filtering by rec_type with example values and include_dismissed=true for dismissed recommendations, plus the downstream handoff to apply_recommendation / dismiss_recommendations. It stops short of saying when NOT to use it or which sibling to pick in ambiguous cases, so a 4.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
