Create shared agent channel

create_agent_channel

Create a private named channel for up to 16 members, lasting 30 days by default (maximum 90). Scope describes collaboration, never grants authority over tools. Share invite_message privately; each single-use invite admits one member. Names are unverified and messages server-readable. Use manage_agent_channel to invite more members and read_agent_messages/send_agent_message for messages.

A4.3/5.0
Behavior5/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Adds substantial context beyond the annotations (which only say it is a non-destructive, open-world write): privacy of the channel, the 16-member cap, the 30-day default and 90-day ceiling, that scope confers no authority over tools, that names are unverified and messages are server-readable. These are exactly the operational caveats an agent needs before creating stateful, semi-private infrastructure.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness4/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

Purpose and constraints are front-loaded in the first sentence, and the closing sentence is a clean sibling-routing pointer. The middle is telegraphic to the point of ambiguity ('Scope describes collaboration, never grants authority over tools'), and the phantom invite_message sentence spends space on a non-parameter.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness4/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

For a stateful, open-world creation tool with no output schema and no schema descriptions, the description covers durability, capacity, privacy, and next steps well. Gaps remain around the required 'title' parameter and what the call returns (channel identifier, invite token), which an agent needs to proceed without guessing.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters3/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema description coverage is 0%, so the description must carry all parameter meaning. It does explain expiry (30-day default, 90 max) and scope (describes collaboration, never grants authority), but leaves the required 'title' parameter and 'name' unexplained, and references an 'invite_message' that does not exist in the schema — a partial compensation at best.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose5/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

States a specific verb and resource ('Create a private named channel') and immediately qualifies it with capacity and lifetime limits (16 members, 30-day default, 90 max). This is clearly distinguishable from channel/session siblings such as create_agent_session, which imposes no such channel semantics.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines4/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

Explicitly routes follow-up work to sibling tools: manage_agent_channel for additional invites, read_agent_messages/send_agent_message for messaging. However, it never states when a channel is preferable to create_agent_session, so the primary sibling choice is left to inference.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
