reorder_transaction_automations

Reorder the transaction automation rules of the user. Rules are evaluated top to bottom on each newly synced or imported bank transaction and the first rule that applies an action wins, so ordering decides which rule takes precedence when several match. Returns the rules in their new order. Requires finance:write scope.

Input Schema

NameRequiredDescriptionDefault
idsYesEvery automation id of the user, in the desired top-to-bottom order. Must contain exactly the current full set (get it from get_transaction_automations first) or the call fails with a conflict.

TDQS

A4.2/5.0
Behavior4/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

No annotations are provided, so the description carries the burden, and it does well: it discloses overwrite semantics (the full ordered set replaces existing order), the conflict-failure behavior, the required finance:write scope, and the returned payload. It does not say whether the operation is reversible or how concurrent reorders are handled, which keeps it below a 5.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness5/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

Three tightly written sentences: operation, the semantic reason ordering matters, then the return value and scope requirement. Nothing is repeated from the schema and the key constraint is front-loaded.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness4/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

With no output schema, the description usefully states the return (rules in their new order), and it covers the prerequisite fetch, the scope requirement, and the evaluation semantics. Complete enough for a one-parameter mutation, though a note on authorization failure or undo behavior would round it out.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters3/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Only one parameter and schema coverage is 100%, so the schema already documents 'ids' as the full ordered UUID set with a max of 100 items. The description adds no syntax or format detail beyond that, so the baseline 3 applies.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose5/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

States a specific verb ('reorder') plus the exact resource ('transaction automation rules of the user'), which cleanly distinguishes it from the create/update/delete_transaction_automation siblings. An agent knows immediately this is a bulk ordering operation, not an attribute edit.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines4/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

Explains the operational context — rules evaluate top to bottom and the first match wins — which tells the agent why ordering matters, and the schema directs it to fetch the current set from get_transaction_automations first. It stops short of explicitly naming update_transaction_automation as the alternative for editing a single rule, so it is clear but not fully routing.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
