Update opportunities

update_opportunities

Triage inbox opportunities: move one or more to a stage, assign, snooze, dismiss, or restore them. All listed opportunities change together or none do. To record a play that was done, such as a fix shipped or outreach sent, use act_on_opportunity instead.

Input Schema

TableJSON Schema
NameRequiredDescriptionDefault
brandYesBrand or study: its ID from list_brands, or its exact name. A partial name is refused.
stageNoMove to this stage.
dismissNoDismiss the opportunities.
restoreNoBring snoozed or dismissed opportunities back to the inbox.
assigneeNome (yourself), none (unassign), or a member ID. No tool lists members: take an ID from an opportunity's assignee.member_id.
snooze_untilNoHide until this date (YYYY-MM-DD, taken as 09:00 UTC) or RFC 3339 time.
dismiss_reasonNoOptional reason when dismissing.
idempotency_keyYesA unique key for this intended action. Reuse it with identical arguments when retrying: the write is not made again, and the reply is the first call's resource as saved (replayed: true) with current status; read tools show the resource's current state. Use a new key for another action.
opportunity_idsYesOpportunity IDs from list_opportunities.

TDQS

A4.4/5.0
Behavior4/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Annotations cover the safety profile (readOnlyHint=false, destructiveHint=false, openWorldHint=false), so the bar is lower. The description still adds genuine non-schema behavior: 'All listed opportunities change together or none do' discloses batch atomicity, and listing restore implies dismiss/snooze are reversible rather than destructive. It does not cover auth requirements or rate limits, so not a 5.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness5/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

Three sentences, zero waste: core action first, the batch-atomicity constraint second, the sibling routing rule last. Every sentence carries load and the most important information is front-loaded.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness4/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

An output schema exists, so return values need not be explained, and the description covers the action set, atomicity, and alternative routing. The remaining gap is whether the action parameters combine (e.g., setting a stage while dismissing) or are mutually exclusive, which an agent must infer from the schema.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters3/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema description coverage is 100%, so the baseline is 3. The description enumerates the action verbs that map onto the stage/assignee/snooze_until/dismiss/restore parameters, which reinforces intent, but it adds no format, default, or mutual-exclusivity detail beyond what the schema already states for each parameter.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose5/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

Opens with a specific verb+resource+scope: 'Triage inbox opportunities' followed by the exact action set (stage, assign, snooze, dismiss, restore). It names the sibling act_on_opportunity and the condition that separates them, so an agent can distinguish it without opening either schema.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines5/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

Gives an explicit routing rule: 'To record a play that was done, such as a fix shipped or outreach sent, use act_on_opportunity instead.' It states the when-to-use for this tool (triage/state change) and the exclusion with the alternative named, leaving nothing to inference.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
