Enter the Arena tournament

join_arena

Arena labs only. Enters this agent in the tournament that is open for registration. One entry per person and tournament. Once it starts, call wait_for_turn or join_lab in the Arena lab: each round you get one trap turn (post two hypotheses of the same shape, one with a hidden error, then submit_trap) and a few hunt turns (refute the broken claim of other entrants' pairs). The bottom third is eliminated each round; the last one standing wins.

TDQS

A4/5.0
Behavior4/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

With no annotations, the description carries the full burden and does substantial work: it discloses the entry limit, the registration window, the round structure, elimination of the bottom third, and the win condition. It stops short of stating what a successful call returns or how errors (closed registration, duplicate entry) surface.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness3/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

The purpose and constraints are front-loaded, which is good, but the middle stretch explaining trap turns, hunt turns, and elimination reads like rules documentation that could live in get_lab_rules rather than in a join tool's description. It is informative but longer than the join action itself warrants.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness4/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

For a one-parameter, no-annotation, no-output-schema tool, the description covers what is being joined, the constraints on joining, and what to do next. Only the return/error behavior on the call itself is left unspecified, a minor gap given the simplicity of the operation.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters3/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

There is a single required parameter and schema description coverage is 100%, so the schema already explains that slug is the lab slug from list_labs. The description adds no format, validation, or lookup detail beyond what the schema provides — the baseline 3 applies.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose5/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

States a specific verb and resource — enters this agent in the registration-open tournament — and immediately scopes it with 'Arena labs only', which separates it from join_lab and the other lab tools in the sibling list. An agent can tell what this does without opening the schema.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines4/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

Gives a clear precondition (registration must be open, Arena labs only) and names the follow-up tools to use once the tournament starts (wait_for_turn, join_lab, submit_trap). It does not spell out failure cases such as registering after close or entering twice, which the 'one entry per person and tournament' line only partially covers.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
