Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

With no annotations, the description must carry the full behavioral burden. It usefully discloses that this is a forced/on-demand mutation of a shared dataset with a built-in daily cadence and a $1M tracking threshold, but it says nothing about whether the call blocks, how long a sync takes, what happens on concurrent or repeated triggers, or what it returns.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

The core statement is front-loaded and the cadence note earns its place, but the first sentence is duplicated verbatim, wasting roughly half the text and suggesting a generation artifact rather than deliberate emphasis.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

For a zero-parameter trigger with no output schema and no annotations, the description covers what it does, its scope and its cadence. It omits the operationally relevant facts an agent would want before invoking a forced sync — blocking behavior, duration, deduplication — which matters more here than for a read-only sibling.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

The schema takes zero parameters, so there are no parameter semantics to document and the baseline of 4 applies. The description does not misleadingly imply any inputs are available.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

States a specific verb (sync), a specific resource (tracked-protocol universe), its source (DefiLlama) and its scope filter (TVL > $1M). It is clearly distinguishable from sibling readers like protocol_health_score, but it never contrasts itself with the closest sibling, protocol_health_refresh_all, leaving that distinction to inference.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

"Runs automatically once/day; use this to trigger it on demand" gives a concrete when-to-use condition and implies the tool is only needed outside the daily cadence. It stops short of naming an alternative (e.g. refresh_all) or stating any preconditions, so it is clear context but without explicit alternatives.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
