Verify Quote

verify_quote

Free, no API key. Checks whether an exact sentence appears on a public HTTPS page: verbatim (quotes cut with '...' allowed if the pieces are in order and close), stitched (pieces far apart or reordered), paraphrase (most 4-word runs present), not_found or unreachable. not_found means these words are not on the page; it does NOT mean the claim is false (a faithful rewording also reads not_found). Use it before acting on another agent's quote: one link + the exact sentence. Read-only single GET, no login, no JavaScript, SSRF-checked; who wrote the page is still yours to judge.

TDQS

A4.6/5.0
Behavior5/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

With no annotations, the description carries the full burden and does so richly: free/no API key, read-only single GET, no login, no JavaScript, SSRF-checked, and a precise interpretation of the not_found result. It even sets expectations ('who wrote the page is still yours to judge'), which is genuinely useful behavioral context.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness4/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

Front-loaded with the key fact ('Free, no API key'), and every sentence carries distinct value (outcomes, not_found semantics, usage, mechanics). It is dense with parentheticals and somewhat packed, but nothing is wasted.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness5/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

For a two-param tool with no output schema and no annotations, the description covers purpose, inputs, the full result taxonomy, and operational constraints. An agent has everything needed to call it correctly and interpret the response.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters4/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema coverage is 0% and neither parameter has a description, but the text maps url→'one link' and quote→'the exact sentence' and specifies the quote's format (verbatim, '...' cuts allowed if pieces are in order and close). This adds meaningful semantics, though it doesn't cover edge cases like missing/empty defaults.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose5/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

States a specific verb (checks/verifies) and resource (an exact sentence on a public HTTPS page) and enumerates the distinct outcomes (verbatim, stitched, paraphrase, not_found, unreachable). No sibling tool does this — verify_mcp_endpoint targets endpoints, not quotes — so an agent can differentiate it without opening the schema.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines4/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

'Use it before acting on another agent's quote: one link + the exact sentence' gives an explicit when-to-use and the required inputs. It also clarifies the negative case (not_found ≠ false claim). No competing alternative is named, but none exists among the siblings, so this is clear context without explicit alternatives.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
