Order a free postal pack (Bosca) for the user

request_postal_pack

Orders a free insured postal pack for a person at a Republic of Ireland address and returns the Bosca number. This is the real order: the request is created when you call it, and for gold lots within the postal limits the pack is posted to the address given with no further step from the person. Silver, mixed lots, bullion and lots over 2,000 euro are registered and arranged on WhatsApp instead; the response says which happened. The person gets a receipt email with a single-use cancel link. Before calling: have the person's name, full address with Eircode, email, phone, what they are sending (gold, silver or mixed) with a rough description and rough value, their agreement to be contacted, and their agreement to the terms statement in accepts_terms. Explain the process first (get_postal_pack_info): items weighed and XRF tested on camera, an itemised offer at the live published rate on the day of testing (no payout is promised), free tracked return if they decline, insured in transit up to 2,000 euro, paid by bank transfer the same day they accept, one photo ID checked before payment. Lots worth more than 1,000 euro can be brought to us in person in Dublin, by appointment, and tested while you watch; message us on WhatsApp to arrange a time. Smaller lots go by post. Do not collect or pass ID documents. Errors name the field to fix.

Input Schema

NameRequiredDescriptionDefault
nameYesThe person's full name, as it should appear on the pack
townYesTown or city
agentNoOptional: the name of the assistant or model making the request, recorded with the lead
emailYesThe person's own email: the receipt, the offer and every update go there
phoneYesPhone number, a mobile preferred, e.g. 087 123 4567 or +353 87 123 4567
countyYesCounty in the Republic of Ireland, e.g. Cork, Mayo, Dublin (Northern Ireland addresses are refused with the alternative)
eircodeYesThe person's Eircode, 7 characters, e.g. D02 X285 (finder.eircode.ie)
item_countNoOptional rough number of items
metal_typeYesWhat they are sending: gold, silver or mixed
accepts_termsYesMust be true, and only after the person has agreed to this statement, which you read to them: "I am 18 or over and I own the items I will send, or am authorised to sell them. I accept the Liffey Metals Postal Selling Terms and Seller Agreement (liffeymetals.com/terms/postal and liffeymetals.com/legal/seller-agreement). I understand that if I decline the offer my items are returned free, and that a postage deduction applies only as those terms describe."
address_line1YesHouse or apartment and street, or townland
address_line2NoOptional second address line
consent_contactYesMust be true: the person agrees to be emailed about the pack and contacted about their items
source_of_itemsNoOptional: where the items came from, if the person said; defaults to other
rough_descriptionYesA rough description of the items, e.g. 'two 9ct rings and a broken 18ct chain, about 12 g'
estimated_value_eurNoRough total value in euro; ask for it. It sets the value band on the request and the route: gold up to 2,000 euro goes straight to a pack, lots over 2,000 euro are arranged on WhatsApp, and under 300 euro there is no pack. Left out, the lot is recorded in the 300 to 500 euro band.

A4.6/5.0
Behavior4/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Annotations only tell the agent this is a non-read-only, non-destructive, non-idempotent write, with no open-world access. The description adds substantial value on top: it warns 'This is the real order: the request is created when you call it', describes the receipt email and single-use cancel link, the conditional routing outcome, and that 'Errors name the field to fix.' No rate limits or failure modes are covered, so it stops just short of a 5.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness4/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

The opening sentence front-loads purpose and return value, and the crucial 'this is the real order' warning follows immediately. It is long (~250 words) and the 'Before calling' checklist partly restates required fields already documented in the schema, but for a 16-parameter write tool with legal/consent implications the density is largely earned.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness5/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

With 16 parameters and no output schema, the description does what structured fields cannot: it sequences the call after get_postal_pack_info, enumerates prerequisites, explains the routing decision and its WhatsApp/in-person alternatives, covers consent and the terms statement, and notes the error contract. Nothing an agent needs to invoke this correctly is missing.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters4/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema coverage is 100%, so the baseline is 3, but the description supplies cross-parameter routing logic the schema does not fully spell out: gold within postal limits is posted directly, while silver/mixed/bullion/over-2,000-euro lots go to WhatsApp, and under 300 euro produces no pack. It also instructs the agent to read the accepts_terms statement to the person, adding procedural meaning to that field.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose5/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

States a specific verb and resource ('Orders a free insured postal pack for a person at a Republic of Ireland address') and the concrete return value (the Bosca number). It is immediately distinguishable from the sibling get_postal_pack_info, which the description explicitly frames as the explanation-only step to run beforehand.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines5/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

Gives an explicit prerequisite checklist (name, address with Eircode, email, phone, metal type, description, value, consent) and names the sibling to call first ('Explain the process first (get_postal_pack_info)'). It also routes the agent to alternatives: WhatsApp for silver/mixed/bullion/over-2,000-euro lots, in-person Dublin appointment for lots over 1,000 euro, and states when no pack is issued at all (under 300 euro).

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
