Update several items

items_update
DestructiveIdempotent

Update up to 100 authorized projects, tasks, or resources, each with its current version. Changes can send configured webhooks and workspace notifications or trigger automation rules. Entries apply one at a time, in order, and one failing doesn't stop the rest; results report each entry by index. Retrying with the same requestId skips entries that already succeeded, so after fixing a failed entry resend the whole batch. Item updates require each item's current version from get_tasks, get_items, or get_workspace. Permissions are enforced for the workspace, project, and account.

A4.5/5.0
Behavior5/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Beyond the annotations it discloses partial-failure semantics (entries apply one at a time, in order, one failure doesn't stop the rest, results keyed by index), requestId-based retry deduplication, side effects (webhooks, notifications, automation rules), and multi-level permission enforcement. This is exactly the behavioral context annotations cannot carry.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness4/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

Front-loaded with the core action, then failure/retry semantics, then prerequisites and permissions. Every sentence earns its place, though the density makes it slightly long for a single tool blurb.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness4/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

For a destructive batch mutation with no output schema, it covers side effects, partial failure, retry, and authorization needs well. The one soft spot is that it only briefly notes results are reported by index, leaving the per-entry result shape implicit.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters4/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

The two top-level parameters have no schema descriptions (0% coverage), and the description compensates: it explains requestId's retry-dedup role and why version must be the item's current version. The nested patch fields are richly documented inside the schema itself, so no further narrative is needed there.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose5/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

The first sentence names a specific verb (update), the resources (projects, tasks, resources), and the key scope constraint (up to 100, each with its current version). This cleanly separates it from the singular sibling item_update.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines4/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

It gives real operational context: retry behavior with the same requestId after fixing a failed entry, and the prerequisite that each item's current version must come from get_tasks, get_items, or get_workspace. It stops short of naming the sibling item_update or stating when to prefer a single-item update over a batch.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
