set_ahrefs_project

Idempotent

Bind (or repoint) ONE of a project's two independent Ahrefs project types — projectType selects rank_tracker or site_audit. ahrefsProjectId is re-validated against the caller's LIVE project list on every call — fails if the project fell out of the connected account's access since it was last listed via list_ahrefs_projects.

Input Schema

TableJSON Schema
NameRequiredDescriptionDefault
projectIdYesRequired. The MisarSEO project ID to scope this call to. Get one from list_projects.
projectTypeYesWhich of the two independent Ahrefs project types to bind.
ahrefsProjectIdYesAhrefs' own project id, taken verbatim from list_ahrefs_projects.

A4.1/5.0
Behavior4/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Annotations already cover the safety profile (readOnly=false, idempotent=true, destructive=false, openWorld=true), so the bar is lower. The description still adds real behavioral value: the ahrefsProjectId is re-validated against the caller's LIVE project list every call and fails if access was revoked, which is non-obvious failure behavior not in the annotations.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness4/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

Two front-loaded sentences with no filler; the binding action and projectType selection come first, then the validation caveat. Formatting with backticks and em-dashes is slightly dense but every clause carries weight.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness4/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

For a 3-param setter with no output schema, the description covers the action, the enum selection, and the key failure mode. It leaves return value and idempotency to the annotations, which is acceptable, though a note on what a successful bind changes would round it out.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters3/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema coverage is 100%, and the schema descriptions already state that projectType picks between the two independent Ahrefs types and that ahrefsProjectId comes verbatim from list_ahrefs_projects. The prose largely restates this, so the baseline 3 applies with little added meaning.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose5/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

States a specific verb (bind/repoint) and resource (an Ahrefs project of one of two project types), and makes the scope explicit via the projectType enum values rank_tracker/site_audit. An agent can distinguish this from list_ahrefs_projects and disconnect_ahrefs without opening a schema.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines4/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

Clearly signals when to use it (bind or repoint an Ahrefs project) and names list_ahrefs_projects as the source of valid IDs. It doesn't explicitly state when NOT to use it or contrast with disconnect_ahrefs, so it's clear context rather than full routing guidance.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
