get_bing_backlinks

Read-onlyIdempotent

GetLinkCounts: own-site inbound-link page list for a project's matched Bing site — the focused, single-call form of the backlinks field already embedded in get_bing_site_overview. FREE (no credits). OWN-SITE ONLY: Bing exposes no competitor/any-domain backlink lookup, and some verified sites are known to return an empty result here even when populated. Bring-your-own-key: requires BING_WEBMASTER_API_KEY. Answers { ok: false, reason: 'not_configured' } when unset, or 'no_matching_site' when the project's domain has no verified match on the account.

TDQS

A4.4/5.0
Behavior5/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Goes well beyond the annotations (which only cover read-only/idempotent/open-world safety) by disclosing that the call is FREE/zero-credit, requires BING_WEBMASTER_API_KEY, and returns structured failure modes ('not_configured', 'no_matching_site'). It also warns that some verified sites return empty results even when populated, a genuine edge case an agent cannot infer elsewhere.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness4/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

Dense but front-loaded: the identity and the get_bing_site_overview relationship come first, followed by cost/auth/error details. Every clause earns its place; only the trailing error-mode sentences make it slightly long for a two-parameter tool.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness5/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

With no output schema, the description carries return-value disclosure itself by naming the { ok: false, reason: ... } shapes, and it covers cost, auth prerequisites, scope limits, and known false-empty behavior. Nothing an agent needs to invoke it correctly is missing.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters3/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema description coverage is 100%, so both parameters (page, projectId) are already documented, including projectId's pointer to list_projects. The description adds no additional parameter meaning, so baseline 3 applies.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose5/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

States a specific verb (Get) and resource (own-site inbound-link page list for a project's matched Bing site) and explicitly positions it as the focused, single-call form of the backlinks field embedded in get_bing_site_overview. An agent can distinguish it from the broader overview sibling without opening either schema.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines4/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

Gives clear scope ('OWN-SITE ONLY') and explicitly rules out competitor/any-domain lookups, which is exactly the kind of when-not guidance that separates it from other backlink tools. It stops short of naming a specific alternative to use for competitor backlinks, so it is not a full 5.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
