Check Payee

check_payee
Read-only

Is this the seller's wallet, before my agent pays it? Fast payee check before an agent pays. Send the resource URL and the payment terms you are about to sign: payee wallet, network and amount. Paddock answers from its daily settlement record in one call, with no live probe, and returns pass, warn, fail or unknown. Only fail recommends blocking. Free without a key up to 25 checks a day, or 1000 a day with a free key. For a full check against the seller's live payment terms, use verify_before_pay. Past the free limits, $0.01 per call over x402.

A4.8/5.0
Behavior5/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Annotations already cover the safety profile (readOnlyHint=true, destructiveHint=false, openWorldHint=false), yet the description adds real behavioral value: it answers from a daily settlement record with no live probe, enumerates the outcome set (pass/warn/fail/unknown), and specifies that only 'fail' recommends blocking. Rate limits and pricing beyond the free tier are also disclosed.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness4/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

Front-loaded with the core question, then outcomes, limits and pricing; every sentence carries decision-relevant content. It is somewhat dense with commercial detail, but nothing is filler.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness5/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

No output schema exists, yet the description supplies the return semantics (pass/warn/fail/unknown and the blocking recommendation), which is exactly what an agent needs to interpret the result. Inputs, alternative tool, limits and cost are all covered, so nothing material is missing.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters4/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema coverage is 100%, so the baseline is 3; the description nonetheless frames the required inputs semantically as 'the resource URL and the payment terms you are about to sign: payee wallet, network and amount', telling the agent what these fields represent in the payment flow rather than just their format. It does not elaborate on optional fields like asset or api_key beyond what the schema says.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose5/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

Opens with a specific question-scoped verb and resource ('Is this the seller's wallet... fast payee check before an agent pays'), states the exact inputs and the single-call settlement-record basis, and names the sibling it is not (verify_before_pay). An agent can distinguish it from verify_before_pay and the other get_* siblings without opening any schema.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines5/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

Gives an explicit use condition ('before an agent pays it'), an explicit alternative for a different need ('For a full check against the seller's live payment terms, use verify_before_pay'), plus rate-limit and cost context (free to 25/day, 1000/day with key, $0.01 over x402) that affects invocation decisions.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
