URL uptime ping

url_uptime_ping
Read-onlyIdempotent

Use when you need to know if a URL is up right now (uptime ping, health check, link check): one HEAD request from a Cloudflare edge (GET if HEAD answers 4xx/5xx), redirects followed up to 4. Returns the exact paid x402 request for your input (GET /v1/uptime/ping, $0.01 per call), with the response schema and an example; call that URL with an x402 or MPP client to get the data. Bad input is refused before any charge. For several URLs use url_uptime_ping_batch. With a P0 access key (header Authorization: Bearer p0k_…, buy one at https://x402-bazaar-rank.x402-bazaar-rank-worker.workers.dev/keys/buy?usd=5) this tool makes the paid call itself and returns the data, deducting the listed price.

A4.4/5.0
Behavior4/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Annotations already cover the safety profile (readOnly, idempotent, non-destructive, openWorld), yet the description still adds substantial behavioral context: the exact paid endpoint (GET /v1/uptime/ping), price ($0.01 per call), that invalid input is rejected pre-charge, and the P0 key path where the tool performs the paid call itself and deducts the listed price. It does not state timeout behavior or what a 'down' result looks like, which keeps it off a 5.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness4/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

Well front-loaded: trigger first, then mechanism, then the x402/key branches. It is dense but nearly every clause carries decision-relevant information; the long key-purchase URL is the one element that inflates length without aiding tool selection.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness5/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

There is no output schema, and the description compensates by explaining what is returned in both modes: the exact paid x402 request with response schema and example, or the actual data when a P0 key is supplied. For a one-parameter, read-only check tool, nothing needed to call it correctly is missing.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters3/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

With a single parameter at 100% schema coverage, the schema already documents the URL format, length cap, example, and allowed ports. The description adds only an implicit constraint ('Bad input is refused') without defining what counts as bad input, so it does not meaningfully exceed the schema baseline.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose5/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

States a specific verb and resource ('know if a URL is up right now') with concrete synonyms (uptime ping, health check, link check) and the exact mechanism (one HEAD request from a Cloudflare edge, GET fallback on 4xx/5xx, up to 4 redirects). It also names the sibling it is not ('For several URLs use url_uptime_ping_batch'), so an agent can distinguish it without opening a schema.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines5/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

Opens with an explicit invocation trigger ('Use when you need to know if a URL is up right now') and names the alternative with the condition that selects it ('For several URLs use url_uptime_ping_batch'). It additionally states input refusal occurs before any charge, removing a common hesitation about calling it.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
