NFT metadata, zkSync

zksync_nft_metadata
Read-only

NFT metadata on zkSync Era: the token URI of one ERC-721 token id (tokenURI) and the JSON it points to (name, description, image, attributes), read from data: URIs, https or ipfs:// (through ipfs.io). Strings over 1,000 characters, such as on-chain SVG images, are shortened. Use to show or check what an NFT is; for its owner use zksync_nft_owner. A token that does not exist is 422, uncharged; unreachable metadata is reported in metadataError. Example: contract=0x0616e5762c1E7Dc3723c50663dF10a162D690a86, tokenId=1. Price $0.01/call via x402 USDC or a card key (/credits), first 25 free; failed calls free. Reads or computes only and changes nothing; each call is charged, so repeats are not free.

A4.4/5.0
Behavior5/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Goes well beyond the annotations: describes truncation of strings over 1,000 characters, a 422 uncharged response for nonexistent tokens, a metadataError for unreachable sources, and that each call is charged so repeats are not free (which explains idempotentHint=false). No contradiction with readOnlyHint or destructiveHint=false.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness4/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

Front-loads the network, resource and resolution sources, then states usage, error behavior, an example, and pricing. Dense but well ordered; the pricing/payment sentence is long and slightly overpacked, keeping it from a 5.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness5/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

With no output schema, the description still explains the return shape (tokenURI plus name, description, image, attributes), the supported URI schemes including ipfs via ipfs.io, truncation behavior, and both failure modes. An agent has everything needed to call it and interpret the result.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters3/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema coverage is 100%, so both parameters are already documented, and the description only restates contract as an ERC-721 collection address. The worked example (contract=0x0616..., tokenId=1) adds a little concreteness but no new semantics beyond the schema. Baseline 3 applies.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose5/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

States a specific verb and resource: reads the tokenURI of one ERC-721 token id plus the JSON it resolves to on zkSync Era. It also explicitly contrasts with the sibling zksync_nft_owner, so an agent can pick between them without opening either schema.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines4/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

"Use to show or check what an NFT is; for its owner use zksync_nft_owner" gives a clear when-to-use plus a named alternative. It does not mention other adjacent siblings like zksync_nft_balance, but the primary routing decision is covered.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
