Vagaro: Book appointment

vagaro_book_appointment

Vagaro: Book a client into an open slot. Books one client for one service with one provider at a start time from search_availability. Returns the appointment, its end time and price. The booking appears on the Vagaro calendar like one made by staff. By default you confirm each call; you can switch that off for this tool. Reaches other people: confirm with the user before each call. Needs the user's Cotlet API key with access to this app.

A4.4/5.0
Behavior5/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Goes well beyond the annotations: discloses the return payload (appointment, end time, price), the side effect that the booking appears on the Vagaro calendar as if staff-made, the default per-call confirmation behavior, the 'reaches other people' caution, and the API-key requirement. This is rich behavioral context that the readOnly/destructive annotations alone do not convey.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness4/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

Front-loaded with the core action and scope. Most sentences earn their place, though the confirmation point is expressed twice ('By default you confirm each call' and 'confirm with the user before each call'), which is mild redundancy.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness5/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

Despite no output schema, the description explains what is returned (appointment, end time, price), the prerequisite (slot from search_availability), the auth requirement (Cotlet API key), and the confirmation policy. Nothing needed to invoke it correctly is missing.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters3/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema description coverage is 100%, so the schema already documents all five parameters and their source tools. The description reinforces that start originates from search_availability and that the call binds a single client/service/provider, but adds no syntax or format detail beyond the schema. Baseline 3 applies.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose5/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

States a specific verb and resource ('Book a client into an open slot') and constrains scope precisely: one client, one service, one provider, at a start time. This clearly separates it from reschedule_appointment, cancel_appointment, and add_to_waitlist siblings.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines4/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

Explicitly ties the 'start' value to search_availability, establishing the prerequisite workflow, and states the confirmation requirement ('confirm the user before each call'). It stops short of naming the alternative siblings (reschedule vs. book) and when each applies, so it is clear context without full routing.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
