Teachable: Moderate comment

teachable_moderate_comment

Teachable: Approve or deny a comment held in Pending Approval. Does what Approve and Deny do on a pending comment. An approved comment appears on the lesson. A denied comment stays in your comment admin with a Denied tag and is hidden from students. Pending Approval exists only when Comment moderation is on. By default you confirm each call; you can switch that off for this tool. Reaches other people: confirm with the user before each call. Needs the user's Cotlet API key with access to this app.

TDQS

A4.3/5.0
Behavior5/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Annotations only supply safety flags (readOnlyHint=false, openWorldHint=true, destructiveHint=false); the description goes well beyond them by describing the outcome of each branch (approved comment appears on the lesson; denied comment keeps a Denied tag and is hidden from students). It also discloses the per-call confirmation behavior, the ability to disable it, and the required Cotlet API key with app access.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness4/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

Effects and preconditions are front-loaded and each operational note earns its place. The sentence 'Does what Approve and Deny do on a pending comment' is largely redundant with the first sentence and is the one wasteful element.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness4/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

With no output schema, the description carries the burden of describing results, and it does so by explaining the post-call state of approved vs denied comments. Combined with the moderation precondition, confirmation requirement, and auth note, an agent has almost everything needed, though the moderation-toggle interaction could be spelled out slightly further.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters3/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema description coverage is 100% and the decision enum is fully documented in the schema, so the baseline is 3. The description adds the constraint that comment_id must reference a comment in Pending Approval, which is mild extra value but not per-parameter detail.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose5/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

States a specific verb pair (approve/deny) and an exact resource scope (a comment held in Pending Approval). This cleanly separates it from siblings like teachable_reply_to_comment and teachable_list_comments, which operate on different states.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines4/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

The description gives a clear applicability condition: 'Pending Approval exists only when Comment moderation is on,' implying it is only meaningful on moderated pending comments. It does not explicitly name an alternative tool for the reply/escalation case, so it stops short of full when/when-not routing.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
