SoundCloud: Send message

soundcloud_send_message

SoundCloud: Send a direct message to one user, optionally with one of your tracks attached. Sends a direct message to one SoundCloud user, or into an existing conversation, under your name. By default you confirm each call; you can switch that off for this tool. Reaches other people: confirm with the user before each call. Needs the user's Cotlet API key with access to this app.

A3.8/5.0
Behavior4/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Annotations already provide readOnlyHint=false, openWorldHint=true, destructiveHint=false, but the description adds meaningful context beyond them: messages are attributed 'under your name', reach other people, require per-call confirmation by default (which can be toggled off), and need a Cotlet API key with app access. It does not describe delivery failure behavior or rate limits.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness3/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

Purpose is front-loaded, but sentence one and sentence two restate the same action ('Send a direct message to one user' vs 'Sends a direct message to one SoundCloud user'), which is redundant. The confirmation and API-key sentences are useful but the opening wastes space re-stating the same fact.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness4/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

For a messaging tool with annotations and no output schema, the description adequately covers recipient, attribution, confirmation flow, and auth requirements. Nothing critical is missing for correct invocation, though return/handling behavior is unspecified.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters3/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema coverage is 100%, so both required and optional parameters are already documented. The description implies the 'to' field accepts either a user or a conversation, but this duplicates the schema's own note ('Profile URL or conversation ID from list_conversations'), adding no syntax beyond it. Baseline 3 is appropriate.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose5/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

States a specific verb (send) and resource (direct message), names the recipient scope (one user), and notes the optional track attachment ('optionally with one of your tracks attached'). This clearly distinguishes it from siblings like list_conversations or reply_to_comment.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines3/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

Describes that it targets a single user or an existing conversation, but does not name any alternative sibling or state when to prefer this over related tools. The confirmation/API-key notes are operational guidance rather than when-to-use-vs-alternatives guidance.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
