SiteMinder: Update restrictions

siteminder_update_restrictions

SiteMinder: Set stop sell, minimum or maximum length of stay, closed to arrival or closed to departure. Sets the restrictions you pass for the room rates and dates you give, on all mapped channels or only the channels you name. Set stop_sell, cta or ctd to false to remove them. Not every channel rate supports every restriction; unsupported ones are listed under skipped. A connected two-way PMS, RMS or CRS overwrites restrictions set in SiteMinder. By default you confirm each call; you can switch that off for this tool. Reaches other people: confirm with the user before each call. Needs the user's Cotlet API key with access to this app.

A4.1/5.0
Behavior5/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Goes well beyond the annotations (readOnly=false, openWorld=true, destructive=false) by disclosing that a two-way PMS/RMS/CRS will overwrite restrictions, that unsupported restrictions appear under 'skipped', that the call requires user confirmation and a Cotlet API key, and that it affects other people. These are exactly the behavioral traits an agent needs before invoking a mutation.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness4/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

Dense but front-loaded: the core action and its restriction set come first, followed by caveats. Every sentence carries information (removal, skip list, overwrite, confirmation, auth), though the final sentences about confirmation and API key could be tightened.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness5/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

Complete for a mutation tool with no output schema: it covers side effects (overwrite by upstream systems), partial-failure behavior (skipped restrictions), confirmation requirements, and the authentication need. Nothing an agent must know to call it safely is missing.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters4/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema description coverage is 100%, so the structured fields already document the parameters, giving a baseline of 3. The description adds value above that baseline by explaining the restriction value set (stop_sell, cta, ctd, min_los, max_los), the boolean-to-remove semantics, and channel scoping, adding meaning beyond the terse schema text.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose4/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

States a specific verb (Set) and resource (restrictions) and enumerates exactly which restrictions: stop sell, min/max LOS, CTA, CTD. Very concrete about what it does, though it never names a sibling to differentiate from, e.g. siteminder_close_dates or siteminder_update_rates, which an agent might confuse with it.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines3/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

Offers within-tool usage help: defaults (all mapped channels, all days) and removal semantics ('Set stop_sell, cta or ctd to false to remove them'). However it gives no explicit when-to-use vs alternatives guidance against the adjacent rate, availability and close-dates tools, leaving selection to inference.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
