Polarsteps: Create trip

polarsteps_create_trip

Polarsteps: New trip, past or upcoming, with the privacy level you pick. Creates a trip with a name and start date. The start date can be in the past, for a trip from before you used Polarsteps. Privacy is Only me (only_me) unless you set followers or everyone, so nothing is shared by accident. By default you confirm each call; you can switch that off for this tool. Reaches other people: confirm with the user before each call. Needs the user's Cotlet API key with access to this app.

TDQS

A3.6/5.0
Behavior4/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Annotations already declare readOnly=false/openWorld=true/destructive=false, and the description adds real value beyond them: the privacy default prevents accidental sharing, per-call confirmation can be toggled off, and it requires the user's Cotlet API key with app access. It stops short of describing side effects like what happens to trip content or response shape.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness3/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

The core action and default privacy are front-loaded, but the text repeats itself: 'the privacy level you pick' is re-explained, and the confirmation guidance is stated twice ('By default you confirm each call' and 'confirm with the user before each call'). Trimming would tighten it.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness4/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

For a creation tool with annotations covering the safety profile and no output schema, the description supplies auth requirements, privacy default, and confirmation behavior. It lacks only return/side-effect detail, which is a minor gap.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters3/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema coverage is 100%, and the schema already documents the privacy enum default (only_me) and that start_date can be in the past. The description restates those same facts rather than adding new semantics, so the baseline 3 is correct.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose4/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

States a specific verb and resource ('Creates a trip with a name and start date') and the privacy dimension, so the agent knows exactly what is produced. It does not name a sibling for comparison (e.g. set_trip_privacy, import_steps), so it is clear but not sibling-differentiating.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines3/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

It gives context about past/future dates and the only_me default, which implies when the call is appropriate, but never states when to use this versus alternatives like polarsteps_set_trip_privacy or polarsteps_import_steps. Usage is inferable but not explicit.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
