A3.6/5.0
Behavior4/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Annotations already cover the safety profile (readOnlyHint, destructiveHint false), so the bar is lower; the description still adds useful context by disclosing the empty-list semantics and the API-key access requirement, which the annotations do not convey. It reinforces rather than contradicts 'Nothing is changed or sent'.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness3/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

Front-loaded and short, but the opening sentence and the second sentence restate the same fact ('who downloaded ... and when') almost verbatim, which is mild waste without adding information.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness4/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

With no output schema and a single required parameter, the description adequately covers the return shape (who downloaded and when, empty list meaning) plus auth needs. It could note ordering or time-range behavior, but nothing essential is missing.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters3/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema coverage is 100% and the single collection_id is fully documented in the schema ('Collection ID from list_collections'), so the description only echoes 'for one collection' without adding syntax or format detail. Baseline 3.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose4/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

States a specific verb and resource ('Returns the download activity ... for one collection: who downloaded and when'), which is clearly distinguishable from pixieset_get_collection or the list_* tools. It doesn't name a sibling, so it falls short of a 5.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines3/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

Scope is implied ('for one collection') but there is no explicit when-to-use/when-not guidance or reference to alternatives such as pixieset_get_collection for non-download metadata. Adequate but with a clear gap.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
