Joy: Send thank-you note

joy_send_thank_you_note

Joy: Digital thank-you email to the guest who gave a gift, sent from the gift tracker. Sends one thank-you to the guest who gave the gift, and marks the gift as thanked in the tracker. By default you confirm each call; you can switch that off for this tool. Reaches other people: confirm with the user before each call. Needs the user's Cotlet API key with access to this app.

A3.9/5.0
Behavior4/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Annotations already declare a write operation (readOnlyHint=false), external reach (openWorldHint=true), and non-destructive intent. The description adds meaningful context beyond that: the side effect of marking the gift as thanked in the tracker, the fact that it reaches other people and warrants per-call user confirmation, and the Cotlet API key requirement. Only return/failure behavior is left unspecified.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness4/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

Front-loaded with the core action, and the safety-relevant confirmation warning is placed prominently. Minor redundancy: 'sent from the gift tracker' and 'marks the gift as thanked in the tracker' restate the same source, and the first and second sentences overlap.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness4/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

No output schema exists, so the description carries the return-value burden, which it does not cover; however, for a send-and-mark tool the essential facts (side effect, external visibility, confirmation, auth) are present. Missing only error/partial-failure behavior, which is a modest gap.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters3/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema description coverage is 100%, so gift_id, message, subject, and event_id are already documented with cross-references to list_received_gifts and list_events. The description adds no syntax or constraint detail beyond that, so baseline 3 applies.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose5/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

States a specific verb and resource: sends one thank-you email to the guest who gave a gift and marks the gift as thanked in the tracker. This distinguishes it from the generic sibling joy_send_email_message and from zola_mark_thank_you_sent (which only marks, doesn't send). An agent can identify it without opening the schema.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines3/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

The description scopes usage to 'the guest who gave a gift' and specifies a confirmation requirement, which implies when to call it. However, it never names or contrasts an alternative (e.g., joy_send_email_message for a general message), so routing between the two thank-you-adjacent tools is left to inference.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
