Hostelworld: List reviews

hostelworld_list_reviews
Read-only

Hostelworld: Reviews from Reports > Customer Ratings, with ratings, text, booking reference and whether you replied. Returns the reviews that came in during the date range, the same list as Reports > Customer Ratings. Hostelworld allows a range of up to one year at a time. Set unanswered_only to skip reviews you replied to. Pass booking_ref to reply_to_review or query_review. Needs the user's Cotlet API key with access to this app.

TDQS

A3.9/5.0
Behavior4/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Annotations already declare readOnlyHint=true and destructiveHint=false, so the safety profile is covered; the description adds real value beyond that with the one-year maximum range constraint and the explicit auth requirement ('Needs the user's Cotlet API key with access to this app'). It stops short of describing pagination behavior or ordering, which the cursor param implies but does not explain.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness4/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

Front-loaded with purpose and payload before moving to constraints and routing, and every sentence carries information. It is slightly dense in the middle (the Reports > Customer Ratings reiteration appears twice), but nothing is wasted.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness4/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

With no output schema, the description usefully enumerates the returned fields and the fact that results are date-range scoped, plus auth and range limits. It is close to complete; the main omission is any statement about result volume or how paging via cursor behaves across a long range.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters3/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema description coverage is 100%, so the from/to range semantics, cursor, and unanswered_only are already documented in the schema; the description largely restates unanswered_only and the one-year limit. The 'pass booking_ref to reply_to_review or query_review' line adds workflow context but refers to a returned field rather than a callable parameter, so it does not extend parameter semantics. Baseline 3 is appropriate.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose5/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

States a specific verb and resource ('List reviews from Reports > Customer Ratings') and enumerates the payload fields returned (ratings, text, booking reference, replied status). It also names sibling tools (reply_to_review, query_review) as the downstream consumers of the returned booking_ref, so an agent can place it against alternative review tools without opening a schema.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines3/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

Gives partial routing guidance — set unanswered_only to skip already-replied reviews, and pass the returned booking_ref to reply_to_review or query_review. However, it never states when to choose this listing over other review-related siblings, and no exclusions or prerequisites for the call itself are spelled out. Usage is implied rather than explicit.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
