Returns the figures of the Sales Report for the period: service and retail sales, gratuity collected, cash and check amounts, taxes paid, refunds given and card transaction fees. A3.6/5.0
Behavior4/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Beyond the safety annotations (readOnly/correct destructive flags), it discloses two non-obvious behaviors: it requires the View Reports permission and returns nothing while the account is paused, cancelled or disabled, plus the API key scope requirement. That is meaningful operational context the annotations do not carry.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness3/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

Front-loaded with the resource name, but the category list is essentially duplicated: the first sentence lists services/retail/gratuity/cash/taxes/refunds/fees and the second sentence re-enumerates the same items with slight rewording. That repetition costs efficiency, though the permission and edge-case sentences earn their place.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness4/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

With no output schema, the description compensates by enumerating the returned figures, and it documents the permission requirement and the empty-result condition. Both parameters are covered by the schema. It is largely complete for a two-param read report, missing only date-format/boundary nuance.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters3/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema coverage is 100% and both date params are documented in the schema as inclusive first/last day. The description only restates 'for the period' without adding format, timezone, or boundary semantics, so it does not go beyond the schema. Baseline 3 applies.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose4/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

States a specific verb and resource (get the Sales Report totals) and enumerates the figures returned, so the agent knows exactly what this produces. It is the only reporting tool among the GlossGenius siblings (the rest are appointment/client/service/waitlist operations), so it is distinguishable, though it does not explicitly name a sibling.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines3/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

The description conveys that it operates 'for the period' (from/to), implying when it applies, but never states when to use this versus another tool or any exclusions/preconditions beyond the permission note. Usage is implied rather than guided.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
