ClockShark: Approve timesheets

clockshark_approve_timesheets

ClockShark: Approve, or unapprove, employee timesheets for a day, week or pay period. Needs timesheet approvals turned on. Approves every shift of the listed employees in the range and returns paid and overtime hours per employee. Timesheet approvals must be turned on in your account. It reaches no one and action unapprove reverses it, so it runs without asking. Needs the user's Cotlet API key with access to this app.

TDQS

A4/5.0
Behavior4/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Annotations mark this as a non-read, non-destructive write. The description adds real behavioral context beyond that: it discloses that no one is notified ('reaches no one'), that 'unapprove' reverses the action (reversibility), and that it returns paid and overtime hours per employee. This is exactly the kind of safety/reversibility detail annotations alone don't convey.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness3/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

The prerequisite is stated twice ('Needs timesheet approvals turned on' and 'Timesheet approvals must be turned on in your account'), and the trailing Cotlet API key sentence is filler. The core purpose is front-loaded, but the redundancy costs it.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness4/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

For a 4-parameter mutation tool with no output schema, the description covers purpose, prerequisite, scope, reversibility, side effects (no notifications) and the returned data (paid/overtime hours). Only the action default and enum semantics are left entirely to the schema, which is acceptable given 100% coverage.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters3/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema description coverage is 100%, so employee_ids, from, to and the action enum are already documented. The description reinforces that the range applies to all shifts of the listed employees, but adds no syntax, format, or default detail beyond the schema. Baseline 3 applies.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose5/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

States a specific verb (approve/unapprove) and resource (employee timesheets) with scope (day, week or pay period, listed employees). An agent can immediately tell this apart from sibling read tools like clockshark_list_time_entries or clockshark_respond_time_off_request.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines4/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

Gives a clear precondition (timesheet approvals must be enabled in the account) and explains what the operation covers ('every shift of the listed employees in the range'). It stops short of naming an explicit alternative or when-not-to-use, but the context is sufficient to select the tool correctly.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
