Buildertrend: List daily logs

buildertrend_list_daily_logs
Read-only

Buildertrend: Daily logs, newest first, with notes, author and who they are shared with. Returns daily logs newest first for one job, or for all open jobs. Each log shows its notes, author and visibility. Visibility is internal, subs and vendors, or client; private logs of other users are not returned. Needs the user's Cotlet API key with access to this app.

A3.6/5.0
Behavior4/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Annotations already establish readOnly=true, so the bar is lower, yet the description adds real value: newest-first ordering, the fields surfaced (notes, author, visibility), the three visibility levels, and the important filtering rule that private logs of other users are excluded. It also notes the Cotlet API key requirement. This goes well beyond the annotation set.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness3/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

Front-loaded with the resource name, but it is noticeably repetitive: 'newest first' appears twice and the returned fields ('notes, author' / 'its notes, author and visibility') are stated twice. Trimming the redundancy would strengthen it.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness4/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

With no output schema, the description carries the burden of describing returns, and it does so by enumerating the visible fields and visibility values. Combined with the readOnly annotations and the auth note, an agent has what it needs to call the tool correctly, though pagination behavior beyond limit is not addressed.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters3/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema coverage is 100%, so the schema already documents limit, since and job_id with defaults and ranges. The description's 'leave empty for all open jobs' and date scoping restate what the schema provides rather than adding new syntax or format meaning, so baseline 3 applies.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose4/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

States a specific verb (returns/lists) and resource (daily logs) with scope (one job or all open jobs), so an agent can distinguish it from the sibling list tools for tasks, change orders and selections. It does not explicitly name the write counterpart (buildertrend_create_daily_log), so it stops short of full sibling differentiation.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines3/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

The description implies when to use it ('for one job, or for all open jobs') and the job_id-empty mode, but it never states when NOT to use it or names an alternative tool. Usage is implied by the scope statement rather than explicitly guided.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
