Delete a channel post

telegram_delete_post
DestructiveIdempotent

Permanently delete one post from Telegram and mark our archived copy deleted. Confirm the exact channel and post first. Requires current channel ownership and bot Delete messages permission. Telegram normally allows deletion only within 48 hours. This is not telegram_forget, which only removes archived data. Manual deletions by other admins cannot be reliably observed.

Input Schema

NameRequiredDescriptionDefault
confirmedYesTrue only after showing the channel, exact content/button destinations or target post/action and receiving explicit user confirmation.
channel_idYesChannel chat_id returned by telegram_list_chats or telegram_find_chat, connected through /channels.
message_idYesPost message_id from this channel, not an ID from its discussion group.
request_idYesUnique key for this user-approved action. Reuse the same key for retries; never generate a new one to retry uncertain delivery.

A4.5/5.0
Behavior4/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Annotations already declare destructiveHint=true, idempotentHint=true and openWorldHint=true; the description goes further by disclosing the dual deletion (Telegram post plus archived copy), the 48-hour Telegram-side limit, permission requirements, and the observability gap for deletions by other admins. It stops short of describing failure modes or what a partial success looks like, which keeps it from a 5.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness5/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

Five short sentences, each carrying distinct operational information: the action, the confirmation prerequisite, permissions, the time limit, and the sibling it is not. The destructive action and the confirmation requirement are front-loaded.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness5/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

For a destructive, no-output-schema tool with fully documented parameters, the description covers safety prerequisites, external API limits, side effects on the archive, and known observability limits. An agent has everything needed to decide whether to call it and what to warn the user about.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters3/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema description coverage is 100%, so channel_id, message_id, request_id and confirmed are already fully documented in the schema. The description's 'confirm the exact channel and post first' echoes the confirmed/request_id semantics but adds no format or edge-case detail beyond the schema. Baseline 3 applies.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose5/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

States a specific verb and resource ('Permanently delete one post from Telegram') plus the secondary effect on the archived copy. It explicitly separates itself from telegram_forget, which only removes archived data, so an agent can distinguish it from the sibling write/edit tools without opening a schema.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines5/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

Gives a precondition ('Confirm the exact channel and post first'), required authorization (channel ownership plus bot Delete messages permission), a hard external constraint (48-hour window), and a named alternative for the archived-only case. This is explicit when/when-not guidance with an alternative named.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
