Add brand rule

add_rule

Adds a rule to a brand, or a starter pack (general, real_estate, health). It applies at once, since it only makes checks stricter, and the people in the workspace see that you added it. Pass rule or pack, not both. Turning a house style switch on is a toggle rule.

Input Schema

NameRequiredDescriptionDefault
packNoA starter pack; rules the brand already has are skipped.
ruleNonever_say: phrases a caption must not contain. must_include: a caption needs one of the phrases. claim: a pattern to refuse. guideline: shown, not checked. toggle: a house style switch.
brandNoBrand id from get_workspace. Optional when the workspace has one brand.

A4.3/5.0
Behavior5/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

The description reveals that the rule applies immediately because it only makes checks stricter, and that workspace members will see the addition. This is important behavioral context not captured by annotations (which only indicate non-read-only, non-destructive, non-idempotent).

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness5/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

The description is a single sentence packed with essential information, no wasted words, and front-loads the core action and constraints.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness4/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

Given the rich schema and annotations, the description covers the key behavioral aspects (immediate application, visibility) and constraints (mutual exclusivity). It doesn't mention output, but an output schema exists, so that's fine. It could mention side effects like skip-existing-rules for packs but that's in schema.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters4/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

The schema has 100% description coverage for all parameters and their nested fields. The description adds some meaning by clarifying that rule and pack are mutually exclusive and that toggles are a type of rule, but otherwise adds little beyond the schema's own descriptions.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose4/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

The description clearly names the verb 'adds' and the resource 'rule' to a brand or starter pack, and distinguishes toggle rules from other kinds. The sibling set includes remove_rule and update_rule, but the description doesn't explicitly differentiate from them, leaving some ambiguity.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines4/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

It provides a clear rule: 'Pass rule or pack, not both' and notes that toggles are for house style switches. However, it doesn't state when to use add_rule versus update_rule or remove_rule, though these are fairly self-evident.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
