Get flow

get_flow
Read-onlyIdempotent

Read one saved Wavelength flow by id. Returns the title, folder_id, is_owner, my_role, owner, is_public, public_url, every node with its id label type owner and note, every edge with source and target labels, a Mermaid flowchart string of the graph, and a link to open it. By default the transcript is omitted and transcript_chars (its length) is returned instead; pass include_transcript true to include the full transcript. A node includes status (warning or error) when it has conditional formatting.

Input Schema

NameRequiredDescriptionDefault
flow_idYesThe id of the flow to read.
include_transcriptNoOptional. When true, include the full transcript. When false (default), omit it and return transcript_chars instead.

A3.7/5.0
Behavior5/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Annotations already cover the safety profile (readOnly, idempotent, non-destructive), so the description is free to add operational context — and it does: it enumerates the returned fields, discloses that the transcript is omitted by default and replaced by transcript_chars, and explains the conditional status field on nodes. This is exactly the kind of behavior an agent cannot infer from structured fields.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness4/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

The purpose is front-loaded in the first sentence and the return-shape detail follows. The middle is a dense comma-list of fields, which is information-dense but slightly run-on; it could be trimmed without loss, but nothing is wasted.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness5/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

With no output schema, the description carries the burden of describing the return value, and it does so thoroughly — field list, transcript default behavior, and node status semantics. An agent has everything needed to call and interpret this tool.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters3/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema description coverage is 100%, and both parameters are already documented in the schema with the same semantics (including the transcript default). The description largely restates rather than extends the schema, so the baseline 3 applies.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose4/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

States a specific verb and resource with scope: 'Read one saved Wavelength flow by id.' An agent immediately knows this is a single-item read. It does not, however, differentiate itself from close siblings like show_flow, export_flow, or summarize_flow, which a 5 would require.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines2/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

There is no explicit guidance on when to use this tool versus list_flows, search_flows, query_flows, show_flow, or export_flow. The only usage-adjacent content is the default behavior of include_transcript, which is invocation detail rather than tool-selection guidance.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
