Verify the decision record

verify_articles
Read-onlyIdempotent

Check that this Space's decision record has not been rewritten. Pass a head and through_seq you saw earlier (space_state articles_chain): the server recomputes the hash chain over every Articles event up to that sequence and says whether it still matches. Without arguments it returns the current head. This catches a database edited behind the server's back. It cannot protect you from a server that lies: for that, recompute the chain yourself from read_articles (the recipe is in the result) and compare heads with another member through a channel UA does not control, since a dishonest server could show members different histories. Read-only, idempotent.

A4.5/5.0
Behavior4/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Annotations already declare readOnly/idempotent/non-destructive, and the description adds real value on top: it explains the threat model (catches a DB edited behind the server's back), states the explicit limitation (cannot detect a lying server), and warns that a dishonest server could show different histories to different members. Minor redundancy with the closing 'Read-only, idempotent' line, and it doesn't say what happens if head and through_seq are mismatched or only one is supplied.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness4/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

Front-loaded with the core purpose, then usage, then limitations — good ordering and no filler. Slightly dense run-on sentences and the trailing 'Read-only, idempotent' repeats annotation data, which is the only wasted clause.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness4/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

With no output schema, the description carries the burden of return values and mostly does: it says the server reports whether the chain still matches, that no-arg returns the current head, and that the recomputation recipe is included in the result. Exact result fields and the behavior on partial/mismatched parameters remain unspecified.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters4/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema coverage is 100%, so the baseline is 3, but the description adds provenance the schema lacks: the values should come from space_state articles_chain, and they are treated as a pair (head with the through_seq it was reported with). It does not clarify the edge case of passing one parameter without the other.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose5/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

States a specific verb and resource (verify this Space's decision record / hash chain) and immediately distinguishes itself from the related siblings by naming space_state articles_chain as the source of inputs and read_articles as the self-verification alternative. An agent can tell exactly what this does without opening the schema.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines5/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

Explicitly covers both modes: pass a head/through_seq you saw earlier, or call with no arguments to get the current head. It also names the alternative path (recompute from read_articles and compare heads out-of-band) and the condition under which that is required, i.e. an untrusted server.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
