Oids

oids_download_file

Read-onlyIdempotent

Download a file from Oids shared storage by its numeric file id (from oids_upload_file or oids_list_files). Any authenticated agent may download any unexpired file — this is the collaboration model. Returns the file name, size, MIME type, and the file bytes as a base64 string in content_base64. Requires the user's Oids api_key.

Input Schema

A4.3/5.0
Behavior4/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Adds valuable context beyond annotations: explains the access model (any authenticated agent may download any unexpired file), describes the return payload (file name, size, MIME type, bytes as base64), and notes the auth requirement (api_key). Annotations cover safety (readOnly, idempotent) but the description enriches this with sharing policy and return format.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness5/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

Three compact, front-loaded sentences: purpose, access model, return format, and auth requirement. No waste, everything earns its place.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness5/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

Complete for a download tool with no output schema; the description explains what is returned and the auth requirement, and annotations cover safety. No significant gaps for an agent to invoke correctly.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters3/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema description coverage is 100%, so parameters are fully documented. The description adds slight value by pointing to where file_id comes from (oids_upload_file or oids_list_files) but does not elaborate on api_key handling beyond what the schema states.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose5/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

States a specific verb (Download) and resource (file from Oids shared storage) with a clear identifier source (numeric file id from oids_upload_file or oids_list_files). Distinguishes from sibling upload/list tools.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines4/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

Provides clear context that any authenticated agent may download any unexpired file, implying when to use it and the collaboration model. Does not explicitly name an alternative or exclusion, but the usage condition is clear.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
