Open artifact in browser

workspace_view_open

Ask the browser tab paired to your agent key in the artifact's workspace to open it, using the context generation you last read (workspace_view_context). operationId is an optional idempotency key: without one, a retry is a new request. The receipt reports queued, applied, deferred, or disconnected state.

Input Schema

NameRequiredDescriptionDefault
whyNoOptional, accepted and not recorded: this write keeps no workspace history. If you send one, one sentence on what the person is trying to accomplish. At most 300 characters.
artifactIdYesThe artifact to open, in a workspace: its id, alias or page URL.
operationIdNoOptional idempotency key: a retry with the same key and inputs returns the same receipt.
expectedContextGenerationYescontextGeneration from your last view context read.

TDQS

A4.4/5.0
Behavior4/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Goes well beyond the annotations: it discloses the delivery path (browser tab paired to the agent key), the idempotency semantics (without operationId a retry is a new request), and the possible receipt states (queued, applied, deferred, disconnected). It does not explain what deferred or disconnected imply or what to do next, so not a 5.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness4/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

Three sentences, front-loaded with the action and target, with no restatement of the title or name. The clauses are dense but each carries information; minor cost is a couple of packed parentheticals.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness5/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

An output schema exists, and the description still summarizes the receipt's outcome states rather than duplicating them, so the agent knows what to expect after the call. Combined with the prerequisite read and idempotency behavior, nothing needed to invoke it correctly is missing.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters4/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema coverage is 100%, so the schema already defines all four parameters; the baseline would be 3. The description adds genuine meaning by explaining operationId's retry semantics concretely and by tying expectedContextGeneration to the specific sibling tool name, which the schema only calls 'your last view context read.'

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose5/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

States a specific verb and resource (open an artifact) plus the precise target mechanism: the browser tab paired to your agent key in the artifact's workspace. Naming workspace_view_context as the source of the required generation distinguishes it from that sibling read tool.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines4/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

It effectively encodes the prerequisite workflow: you must have read workspace_view_context first, since expectedContextGeneration comes from that read. It does not state when-not-to-use it or name any alternative path (e.g. a read via artifact_get_content instead), so slightly short of a 5.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
