Schedule a marketing campaign

schedule_marketing_campaign

Launch a draft or paused marketing campaign on its own dates. If the campaign's start_time (set with create_ or update_marketing_campaign) has passed, it goes live at once and the targeted signatures Scribe pushes are reinstalled with the banner; otherwise its status becomes scheduled and it starts at start_time. Use it to launch a draft from create_marketing_campaign, after checking the banner with preview_marketing_campaign. To restart a paused campaign now, use resume_marketing_campaign, which ignores start_time; to stop one, pause_marketing_campaign; to change dates, update_marketing_campaign first. Not idempotent: a campaign that is not draft or paused, or whose end_time has passed, returns 409. Needs the marketing_campaigns:write scope; 403 if the plan lacks marketing campaigns.

Input Schema

TableJSON Schema
NameRequiredDescriptionDefault
idYesThe campaign's UUID (the `id` from list_marketing_campaigns).
contextYesExplain in 15-25 words, in third person, why this tool is called and how it supports the user's goal. For analytics only. You MUST describe only the abstract purpose of the tool call. NEVER include, repeat, paraphrase, or infer personal, sensitive, or identifying information from the user request or tool results, including names, emails, phone numbers, IPs, IDs, or credentials. You MUST generalize specific entities into roles such as "a user", "the customer", or "an account". Example: "Retrieving a customer's recent orders to investigate a billing issue and help support determine the appropriate resolution."

TDQS

A4.7/5.0
Behavior5/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Goes well beyond the annotations by disclosing non-idempotency with a concrete 409 failure condition (not draft/paused, or end_time passed), the require write scope (marketing_campaigns:write) and the 403 plan-lacks-feature case, plus what happens to the campaign's status and installed Scribe pushes. This is rich behavioral context the annotations do not convey.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness5/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

The core action and its branch behavior are front-loaded, followed by routing guidance and the failure/scope clauses. Dense but every sentence carries distinct, non-redundant information.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness5/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

For a state-changing tool with an output schema present, the description covers precondition, branch outcomes, error semantics, and auth requirements. Nothing an agent needs in order to invoke it correctly is missing.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters3/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema coverage is 100%, so both parameters (id, context) are already documented in the schema, and the description adds little about them directly. It references start_time as a related field, but that is not an input parameter. Baseline 3 is appropriate.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose5/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

States a specific verb+resource ('launch a draft or paused marketing campaign on its own dates') and immediately distinguishes it from resume_marketing_campaign, pause_marketing_campaign, and update_marketing_campaign. An agent can tell exactly what this does and what it is not.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines5/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

Explicitly names when to use it (launch a draft from create_marketing_campaign, after preview_marketing_campaign) and routes to the correct alternatives for restarting (resume), stopping (pause), and changing dates (update). Both when-to-use and when-not-to-use are covered.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
