Run a source (paid)

procli_run

Runs a data source and returns its results. Charges the ProLevelMax balance; the charge never exceeds the quoted maximum for that input. A run whose quote is above $0.10 is not started unless confirmed=true: without it, the result is the quote and nothing is charged. Returns a preview of the first rows, the total count, the cost, the remaining balance and download links (CSV / Excel / JSON). Per-call sources return one page per call; the result's page object holds the paging values for the next page. With async=true it returns a runId at once and the run continues in the background.

Input Schema

NameRequiredDescriptionDefault
asyncNoReturn a runId at once and run in the background
inputYesInput fields for this source
scraperYesSource id, e.g. "procli_reddit_b"
timeoutNoSeconds to wait for the source (max 300)
maxItemsNoPer-result sources: most results to return (default 100). Ignored by per-call sources.
confirmedNoSet to true when the user has approved the quoted cost. Required for runs whose quote is above $0.10.

Output Schema

NameRequiredDescriptionDefault

nextNoWhat to do next (async runs)
pageNoPer-call sources: values to send as the paging input fields to get the next page
countNoTotal results
itemsNoResult rows
quoteNoQuote for the planned run
runIdYesRun id
cappedNoPresent when the run stopped early at a limit
statusNopending for async runs
balanceNoBalance after the run, in USD

TDQS

A4.2/5.0
Behavior5/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Adds substantial context beyond the annotations: the charge is bounded by the quote and never exceeds it, unconfirmed runs above $0.10 start nothing and charge nothing, and the result carries preview rows, count, cost, balance and download links. This is exactly the money-safety and side-effect detail the annotations (readOnlyHint=false, idempotentHint=false) cannot express.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness4/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

Front-loaded with the verb and cost implications, then paging and async. Dense but each sentence carries a distinct fact; the enumeration of return fields is the one piece that duplicates the output schema.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness4/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

Covers cost gating, confirmation, async, and paging – the full complexity surface of a paid, open-world, non-idempotent tool. Restating the return fields is redundant given the output schema, and failure modes (e.g. insufficient balance, quote expiry) are not addressed.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters4/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema coverage is 100%, so baseline is 3, but the description adds real meaning: the $0.10 threshold that makes confirmed relevant, the runId behavior of async, and the fact that maxItems is ignored by per-call sources. The 'input' object remains a black box for the agent, which is the only gap.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose4/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

Opens with a specific verb+resource: 'Runs a data source and returns its results,' and immediately frames it as a paid operation. It is distinguishable from procli_runs_get and procli_inspect by implication (it spends money and returns results inline), but no sibling is named explicitly.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines4/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

Gives clear conditional guidance: confirmed=true is needed only when the quote exceeds $0.10, and async=true for background execution. Per-call vs per-result paging behavior also tells the agent when to re-invoke. It stops short of naming alternative tools for discovery, inspection, or retrieving past runs.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
