Get asset

get_asset
Read-only

Get full details of a specific asset by its token. For more than one asset use get_assets, which reads up to 100 in a single call — calling this in a loop is the slow way to read a board. This one always returns ai_agent_payload, where get_assets makes it opt-in. Returns metadata including approval state, title, media type, tags, statuses, description, URLs, and dimensions. Signed display URLs expire after about 24 hours; permalink, when present, does not expire. colors holds the image's primary colours as hex codes, most dominant first, so a board's palette can be built from its assets' colors without downloading the images. It is empty for anything with no rendered preview (notes, colour swatches, links), which means not analysed, not colourless. List and search results do not carry it; ask for an asset by token. A video's stream_url is null until an HLS encode has finished; reading never starts one — retry_video_processing does.

TDQS

A4.6/5.0
Behavior5/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Annotations already establish readOnly/non-destructive/non-open-world, and the description layers on substantial extra behavior: signed display URLs expire in ~24h while permalink does not, colors is empty for anything with no rendered preview (meaning 'not analysed', not 'colourless'), stream_url stays null until HLS encoding finishes, and reading never triggers an encode. These are real operational traits an agent needs and none are in the annotations.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness4/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

Front-loads purpose, then the sibling routing rule, then return-field semantics — a logical order with no filler sentences. It is dense for a single-token getter, but each clause (expiry, colors emptiness, stream_url) carries distinct information rather than restating the schema.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness5/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

With no output schema, the description carries the return-value burden and does so thoroughly: enumerates the metadata returned, explains URL expiry, colors ordering and edge case, and the video stream_url precondition. Nothing an agent needs to call and interpret this correctly is missing.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters3/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema description coverage is 100% and the organization parameter already carries rich usage guidance in the schema itself. The description reinforces 'ask for an asset by token' but adds no new syntax, format, or meaning for either parameter, so the baseline 3 is appropriate.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose5/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

States a specific verb+resource ('Get full details of a specific asset by its token') and explicitly distinguishes itself from the sibling get_assets, including the behavioral difference (this one always returns ai_agent_payload; get_assets makes it opt-in). An agent can route between the two without opening either schema.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines5/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

Gives explicit when-to-use guidance: use get_assets for more than one asset (up to 100 per call) and avoid looping this tool, plus 'ask for an asset by token' because list/search results don't carry colors. It names the alternative and the condition that selects it, and points to retry_video_processing for the stream_url case.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
