Delete custom field

delete_custom_field
Destructive

Delete a custom field of any type, with all of its options. This strips the field's value from every asset that carried one, and is not reversible. The workspace's built-in 'Status' field is protected and cannot be deleted. Takes the field token from list_custom_fields, not its name. Requires a write-scope token and workspace owner/admin permission.

Input Schema

TableJSON Schema
NameRequiredDescriptionDefault
tokenYesCustom field token from list_custom_fields
organizationNoWorkspace slug, as returned by list_organizations. Omit it when the account has a single workspace — it is then resolved from your token. Pass it only when the account has several, or when you mean a workspace other than the obvious one.

A4.7/5.0
Behavior5/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Annotations already declare destructiveHint=true, but the description adds substantial beyond-annotation context: values are stripped from every asset, the action is not reversible, the Status field is protected, and it requires a write-scope token plus owner/admin permission. Auth and irreversibility are exactly the extra disclosure the annotations don't carry.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness5/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

Front-loads the destructive effect and irreversibility in the first two sentences, then appends the protection and auth constraints. Every sentence carries distinct, actionable information with no padding.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness5/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

For a destructive 2-parameter tool with no output schema, the description covers impact, irreversibility, protected resources, parameter source, and auth requirements. An agent has everything needed to call it correctly and safely.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters4/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema coverage is 100%, so the baseline is 3, but the description adds a meaningful clarification that the token must be the identifier from list_custom_fields and explicitly not the field's name — a real semantic guard beyond the schema text.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose5/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

States a specific verb (Delete) and resource (custom field), plus scope ('of any type, with all of its options'). It is clearly distinguishable from sibling create_custom_field and read-only list_custom_fields.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines4/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

Gives concrete context for use: it names the source of the token (list_custom_fields) and explicitly excludes the built-in 'Status' field, which cannot be deleted. It does not name an alternative sibling, but the when/when-not conditions are present.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
