Get Whiteboard Tool Settings

get_whiteboard_tool_settings
Read-only
  • Purpose: Get all whiteboard/sandbox tool settings including which toolbar tools are enabled/disabled, AR lenses, and video/screen recording length limit.

  • What this tool returns: { success: true, whiteboard_tool_settings: {...}, ar_lenses_enabled: true/false, video_length_limit: }

Guidance for use:

  • whiteboard_tool_settings shows which toolbar tools are enabled or disabled. It is a hash of tool_id => boolean (true = enabled, false = disabled)

  • ar_lenses_enabled indicates whether augmented reality filters are available in the video recorder.

  • video_length_limit is the maximum recording length in seconds for video and screen recorder (nil means using the default/max limit).

  • Use update_whiteboard_tool_settings to change any of these settings.

Input Schema

NameRequiredDescriptionDefault
wall_urlYesThe padlet's link (e.g. https://padlet.com/foo/bar-a1b2c3): the link you were given, the `wall_url` a previous call returned, or a link the user pasted. Not a breakout-room or submission link, and not a padlet id: no tool takes a wall_id.

TDQS

A4.5/5.0
Behavior4/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Annotations already declare readOnlyHint=true and destructiveHint=false, so the safety profile is covered. The description adds useful return semantics, including the whiteboard_tool_settings hash format, ar_lenses_enabled meaning, and nil video_length_limit default, though it does not discuss permissions or error behavior.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness5/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

Front-loads purpose and return shape in structured bullets, then gives usage guidance with no fluff. Every sentence contributes useful information.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness5/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

No output schema exists, but the description explicitly describes the return shape and field meanings. With the single fully documented input parameter and read-only annotations, the definition is complete enough to invoke correctly.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters3/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema coverage is 100% and the wall_url parameter is thoroughly documented in the schema. The description adds no parameter meaning beyond the schema, so baseline 3 is appropriate.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose5/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

States a specific verb and resource: get all whiteboard/sandbox tool settings, including toolbar tools, AR lenses, and recording length. It also names update_whiteboard_tool_settings as the mutation counterpart, making the read-only purpose clear.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines5/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

Explicitly directs the agent to use update_whiteboard_tool_settings to change any of these settings. For a read-only getter, this gives clear when-to-use and the relevant alternative.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
