Save collection base

save_collection_base
DestructiveIdempotent

Save an owned or public base in your collection. Collections store references, not copied content. They start private. Owner search reads current files in owned bases and published files in other bases. Publication includes only references to currently public bases; private bases and later additions stay out. Every public read checks base publication again. Private or withdrawn collections return 404. Responses use private, no-store.

A3.7/5.0
Behavior4/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Annotations already declare readOnly=false, idempotent=true, destructive=true; the description adds genuinely non-redundant semantics: collections hold references not copies (so saving/removing does not touch base content), collections start private, and private/withdrawn collections return 404. It does not explain what making the collection public later implies for the owner, but the extra context is solid beyond the annotations.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness2/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

The leading sentence is well front-loaded, but the back half drifts into publication semantics ('Publication includes only references to currently public bases', 'Every public read checks base publication again', 'Responses use private, no-store') that describe collection read/publish behavior, not the act of saving a base. Several sentences do not earn their place for this tool.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness4/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

There is no output schema, and the description compensates reasonably: the reference-not-copy model, privacy default, and 404 behavior give an agent enough to call it correctly, with the idempotent hint covering repeat saves. Only the drift into unrelated publication/read caching keeps it from being fully focused.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters3/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Both parameters (base_id, collection_id) already have 100% schema description coverage, so the baseline is 3. The description adds no syntax, format, or constraint detail beyond the schema and does not clarify the 64-character ID relationship between the two params.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose5/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

The first sentence states a specific verb + resource ('Save ... a base in your collection'), which cleanly separates it from siblings like remove_collection_base, create_collection, and save_base_dataset. An agent can identify the action and its target without opening the schema.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines3/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

The description implies the precondition that the base must be 'owned or public' and that collections store references rather than copies, which is useful usage context. However, it never explicitly states when to use this versus remove_collection_base or create_collection, nor what happens if the base is already saved, leaving the routing to inference.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
