Public get collection

public_get_collection
Read-onlyIdempotent

Read a published collection without an account. Collections store references, not copied content. They start private. Owner search reads current files in owned bases and published files in other bases. Publication includes only references to currently public bases; private bases and later additions stay out. Every public read checks base publication again. Private or withdrawn collections return 404. Responses use private, no-store.

A3.6/5.0
Behavior4/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Annotations already cover the safety profile (readOnly, idempotent, non-destructive), so the description earns credit for going beyond them: private or withdrawn collections return 404, responses are private/no-store, and base publication is re-checked on every read. Gaps remain around rate limits and malformed-ID behavior, but this is meaningfully richer than the annotations.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness3/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

Purpose is correctly front-loaded in the first sentence, but several later sentences concern collection/publication mechanics and owner-search behavior ('Owner search reads current files in owned bases...') that do not help an agent invoke this get call. That is filler relative to the task and dilutes an otherwise compact definition.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness4/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

For a single-parameter read tool with annotations covering safety and no output schema, the description supplies the missing operational context: the 404 failure mode, the no-store caching constraint, and the publication re-check. Only minor details (rate limits, invalid ID handling) are absent, so it is essentially complete.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters3/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema description coverage is 100% and the single collection_id parameter is fully documented there as 'the 64-character ID returned by this API.' The description adds no syntax, format, or sourcing detail beyond the schema, so the baseline 3 applies.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose4/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

The opening sentence states a specific verb and resource plus the access mode: 'Read a published collection without an account.' That is clear and actionable. It stops short of differentiating from the sibling public_search_collection, which serves a related but distinct purpose on the same resource type.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines3/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

Usage is only implied by the description: an agent infers 'call this to read a specific published collection.' No when-to-use, when-not, or alternative (e.g. public_search_collection for discovery) is named. Adequate but leaves routing to inference.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
