List base updates

list_base_updates
Read-onlyIdempotent

Read updates from your followed bases. Requires a personal account or personal API key. Following grants no private access. Up to 50 hosted public bases per account. Updates show the latest published version of each document, not a version history. Repeated publication of the same version creates no update. Each read checks current publication. Unfollowing removes all notices for that base. Responses use private, no-store. No email or push messages.

A3.9/5.0
Behavior5/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Annotations only cover the safety profile (readOnly/idempotent/non-destructive), and the description goes well beyond that: account/key requirements, the 50-base cap, that updates reflect the latest published version rather than history, that republishing the same version produces no update, that each read re-checks publication, and that responses are private/no-store with no email or push delivery. This is unusually rich behavioral disclosure.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness4/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

The purpose is front-loaded and the remaining sentences are short and information-dense. It reads as a stream of telegraphic fragments, but each fact carries weight and none is redundant, so it stays efficient despite the staccato style.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness4/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

With no output schema, the description takes on the burden of defining what an 'update' is, and it does so well (latest published version, no history, no duplicate notices). The remaining gap is the unresolved relationship to the near-identical followed_base_updates sibling, which leaves the agent's tool selection ambiguous.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters3/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema coverage is 100% and the single 'after' cursor is already documented in the schema with a clear warning not to construct cursors. The description adds nothing about pagination or the cursor, so per the baseline rule a 3 is correct when the schema does the heavy lifting.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose4/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

The description opens with a specific verb and resource: 'Read updates from your followed bases,' which tells an agent exactly what the tool returns. However, it never distinguishes itself from the sibling tool followed_base_updates, which sounds functionally identical. An agent must guess which of the two to call.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines3/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

It states a prerequisite ('Requires a personal account or personal API key') and a scope note ('Following grants no private access'), which implies the usage context. But it gives no when-to-use/when-not guidance and never routes the agent between this tool and followed_base_updates or list_followed_bases.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
