Followed base updates

followed_base_updates
Read-onlyIdempotent

Read updates for one base you follow. Requires a personal account or personal API key. Following grants no private access. Up to 50 hosted public bases per account. Updates show the latest published version of each document, not a version history. Repeated publication of the same version creates no update. Each read checks current publication. Unfollowing removes all notices for that base. Responses use private, no-store. No email or push messages.

TDQS

A3.9/5.0
Behavior5/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Annotations already establish readOnly/idempotent/non-destructive, and the description layers on genuinely new behavior: following grants no private access, a 50-base cap, only the latest published version is shown (no version history), republication creates no update, each read re-checks publication, unfollowing clears notices, and responses are no-store with no email/push. This is unusually rich disclosure.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness4/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

The purpose leads and the rest is a tight series of short factual sentences with no filler. It is slightly list-like and a couple of statements ("Each read checks current publication") sit close to the version-history point, but nothing is wasted.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness4/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

With no output schema, the description carries the burden of explaining returns and does so (latest published version per document, not history). Auth requirements and pagination semantics are covered between the description and schema, leaving little an agent needs missing.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters3/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema description coverage is 100% – the base_id format and the cursor warning are already documented in the schema. The description adds only the implication that base_id must reference a followed base, which is marginal beyond the structured fields.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose4/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

States a specific verb and resource ("Read updates for one base you follow"), scoping it to a single followed base rather than all followed bases. It implicitly separates itself from siblings like list_base_updates and get_base_following, but never names an alternative explicitly.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines3/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

Provides a real prerequisite ("Requires a personal account or personal API key") and implies the context of use via "one base you follow." However, it never says when to prefer this over list_base_updates, list_followed_bases, or get_base_following, so routing remains inferential.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
