Retract takedown event

retract_takedown_event
DestructiveIdempotent

Retract a comment or logged step on a takedown. The entry stays in the append-only timeline, muted. Only the author can retract it, and lifecycle entries (started, succeeded, unsuccessful, dropped, reopened) are never retractable: the retractable flag on each get_takedown event says whether this call applies.

TDQS

A4.5/5.0
Behavior4/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Annotations already declare destructiveHint=true and idempotentHint=true, but the description adds meaningful non-obvious context: the entry is not deleted, it stays in the append-only timeline muted, and there is an authorization constraint (author only). This softens the apparent destructiveness without contradicting the annotation, since a state change is still performed. It does not discuss failure modes or error behavior.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness5/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

Three dense sentences with no filler: effect, retention semantics, then eligibility rules. Front-loaded verb and outcome, with the routing hint last.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness5/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

An output schema exists so return values need not be explained, and the description covers the remaining agent-critical unknowns: authorization, which entries are eligible, and what happens to the record. Nothing needed to invoke it correctly is missing.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters3/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema description coverage is 100% and both UUID params are documented and sourced (event_id from get_takedown, takedown_id from list_takedowns). The description reinforces the link to the get_takedown timeline but adds no format or syntactic detail beyond the schema, so the baseline 3 applies.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose5/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

States a specific verb (retract) and resource (a comment or logged step on a takedown), and the effect on the entry. It is clearly distinguishable from sibling mutators like add_takedown_event, start_takedown, and update_takedown.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines5/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

Gives explicit eligibility rules: only the author may retract, and lifecycle entries (started, succeeded, unsuccessful, dropped, reopened) are never retractable. It even routes the agent to the decision input — the retractable flag on each get_takedown event — so applicability is determinable before the call.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
