Ask for photos with a link

request_upload_link

Get a link the user taps to send pictures or videos from their own phone or computer straight into the account, with no setup and no sign-in. Use it whenever the user mentions or attaches a picture you cannot upload yourself: every claude.ai attachment and project file, or when a create_upload PUT or an import_media fetch is refused. Give the user the url in one plain sentence in their language ("Tap this link and choose your photos; tell me when it's done."), then call get_upload_link with handoff_id. The link takes up to max_files files and stays open for 24 hours.

A4.9/5.0
Behavior5/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Annotations already declare it is not read-only, not open-world, not idempotent, and not destructive. The description adds key behavioral context beyond annotations: the user-facing handoff flow, no sign-in/setup requirement, max_files capacity, 24-hour link lifetime, and the required follow-up get_upload_link(handoff_id) call.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness5/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

The purpose is front-loaded, followed by use conditions and a concrete user-facing instruction. The example sentence is compact and actionable, and every part of the description contributes to correct invocation or user handoff.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness5/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

Given zero input parameters, an output schema, and annotations that already cover safety traits, the description supplies the missing operational details: when to use it, what to tell the user, link capacity/expiration, and the next call to make. It is complete for correct use.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters4/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

The tool has zero input parameters, so the baseline is 4. The description need not explain parameter meanings, though it helpfully references max_files and handoff_id as workflow/output values rather than inputs.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose5/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

States a specific verb and resource: get a link for the user to send pictures or videos into the account. It is scoped with 'no setup and no sign-in' and differentiates from create_upload/import_media by naming those as fallback triggers, and from get_upload_link as the follow-up call.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines5/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

Explicitly says to use it whenever the user mentions or attaches a picture the agent cannot upload itself, including claude.ai attachments/project files, or when create_upload PUT or import_media fetch is refused. This gives clear triggering conditions and names alternatives in the workflow.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
