Remove background

remove_image_background

Automatically remove the background from product shots, portraits, and generated images. Returns a transparent lossless image. Creates a saved generation from an image already in the account, using account entitlements. get_generation waits for the result.

A4.2/5.0
Behavior4/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Beyond the annotations, it discloses that the call produces a saved (persisted) generation, that it consumes account entitlements, that the output is a transparent lossless image, and that the operation is asynchronous with get_generation as the completion path. It does not call out the non-idempotent consequence explicitly, but the 'creates a saved generation' phrasing and the annotations together make the mutation semantics clear.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness5/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

Four short sentences, purpose first, then output, then behavioral/cost context, then the async retrieval step. No redundancy and nothing that could be dropped without losing information.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness4/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

For a single-parameter async mutation with an output schema already covering return values, the description supplies the key operational facts: persistence, entitlements, and polling via get_generation. The only real gap is the un-explained source union, which the schema largely handles on its own.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters3/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

With one parameter and 0% schema description coverage, the description carries the explanatory burden and only partly does so: 'from an image already in the account' implies the source must be an existing asset but never distinguishes the upload_id variant from the generation_id variant in the schema's anyOf. The schema's const-typed discriminator makes the union mostly self-explanatory, so a baseline 3 is fair.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose5/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

States a specific verb+resource (remove background from an image) and narrows the applicable inputs to product shots, portraits, and generated images. This cleanly separates it from sibling image operations such as upscale_image, vectorize_image, edit_image, and restore_photo, so an agent can select it without opening the schema.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines4/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

It gives concrete usage context (product shots, portraits, generated images) and names the required follow-up: the result is created asynchronously and get_generation waits for it. It does not name a when-not condition or an alternative tool for cases it doesn't cover, so it stops short of full routing guidance.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
