expand_listing

Read-only

A listing as its convention wants it now (yours or any public one): the expanded header with every derived field (e.g. agent_work.ai_consulting, metro.granularity: what the listing carries because of its convention, the same for every listing on it), the convention_version it's written for and the current one, and what update_listing would add or change. When a convention moves on, its listings written for an older version are in the store's wilderness until updated.

Input Schema

NameRequiredDescriptionDefault
pathYesThe listing's path, e.g. listings/dog-walking.md.
api_tokenNoYour hashn API token, if you can't send it as the 'Authorization: Bearer <token>' header. Omit it when the header is set.
workspace_idYesThe listing's workspace.

TDQS

C2.7/5.0
Behavior3/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Annotations already declare readOnlyHint=true and openWorldHint=false. The description is consistent, implying a read-only preview of 'what update_listing would add or change,' which adds a useful dry-run framing, but it says nothing about auth handling or the shape of the returned diff beyond the annotations.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness2/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

A single run-on sentence with nested parentheses, obscure metaphors ('the store's wilderness'), and no front-loaded statement of what the tool does. The reader reaches 'expand a listing' only by decoding the rest.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness3/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

With no output schema, the description usefully sketches the return content (expanded header, derived fields, target vs current convention_version, update diff), which is more than most. But the fuzzy purpose statement leaves the agent unsure exactly what action this performs.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters3/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema coverage is 100%, so path, workspace_id, and api_token are already documented (including the path example and the Authorization header note). The description adds no parameter meaning beyond the schema, so the baseline 3 applies.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose3/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

The verb 'expand' and resource 'listing' are present, and it lists what the expanded output contains (derived header fields, convention versions, pending update diff), so an agent can piece together that this previews a listing under its convention. But the phrasing 'a listing as its convention wants it now' and 'the store's wilderness' is idiosyncratic jargon that obscures the core purpose rather than stating it plainly.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines2/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

It mentions update_listing only to say what that tool would change, not to route the agent between the two. The closing sentence implies a scenario (checking listings stranded on an older convention version) but never states when to call this versus update_listing or get_convention.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
