SEO GSC Wizard MCP

Sitemap URL performance

get_sitemap_performance
Read-only

Use this when the user asks how the URLs in one sitemap perform in Google search, or how many of them get impressions. Fetches a sitemap belonging to the property, extracts its URLs, and joins them with Search Console page performance over a date range. Each URL gets its clicks, impressions, ctr (a percentage, 0-100), and average position (zeros if the page has no GSC data), sorted by clicks then impressions, highest first. Reports how many sitemap URLs actually received impressions (indexedInGscCount). The warehouse reads the sitemap URLs themselves, so a zero is exact. The live API cannot, so it pages through the property's pages (top 100,000 by clicks at most) until every URL is found; truncated: true means some URLs were not reached, so their zeros are unknown rather than "no impressions" (scanLimit is the rows read). Expands one level of a sitemap index (up to 5 child sitemaps; a child that cannot be read is named in childSitemapNote instead of failing the call), caps extracted URLs at maxUrls (default 500, max 2000), and only fetches http(s) URLs on the property host or a subdomain of it. Served from the ClickHouse warehouse when available, otherwise the live Search Console API (see dataSource). The sitemap is fetched with the user agent "GSCWizard-Bot/1.0 (On-Page SEO Checker)"; if the server blocks it (403/401/429) or no URLs come back, relay the whitelisting advice in the error or crawlNote. Not for the list of submitted sitemaps: use list_sitemaps. Date range is optional: omit startDate/endDate to analyze the last 28 settled days (data lags ~2-3 days).

Input Schema

NameRequiredDescriptionDefault
endDateNoOptional. Window end as YYYY-MM-DD (e.g. 2026-05-31). You do NOT need to know today's date or the latest available date: omit this and the server uses the latest settled Search Console date (data lags ~2-3 days behind today). Never pass null or the string "null".
maxUrlsNo
siteUrlYes
startDateNoOptional. Window start as YYYY-MM-DD (e.g. 2026-05-03). You do NOT need to know today's date. Omit BOTH startDate and endDate to analyze the last 28 settled days automatically (Search Console data lags ~2-3 days). Never pass null or the string "null".
searchTypeNoSearch type: web (default), image, video, news (the News tab), discover, googleNews (news.google.com), or all (web + image + video + news + discover combined, position impression-weighted, like the app's "All" filter). Discover and googleNews carry no query dimension, so query-level results for them are empty, and no position: it reads null, not 0.web

TDQS

A4.8/5.0
Behavior5/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Goes far beyond the readOnly/openWorld annotations: it explains the dual data path (ClickHouse warehouse vs live Search Console API via dataSource) and why zeros are exact in one and possibly unknown in the other, what `truncated` and `scanLimit` mean, that a sitemap index is expanded one level to at most 5 children with failures surfaced in `childSitemapNote`, that URLs are capped by maxUrls and filtered to http(s) on the property host or subdomains, the bot user agent used, and to relay whitelisting advice on 403/401/429. Output ordering (clicks then impressions, descending) is also disclosed.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness4/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

Front-loaded with the trigger and the core behavior, and nearly every clause carries operational value. The middle section is a dense run-on of caveats (warehouse/live discrepancy, index expansion, URL caps, bot user agent) that could be split or trimmed slightly, but nothing is truly filler.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness5/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

For a six-parameter tool with an output schema, the description still surfaces the key return fields an agent must interpret (indexedInGscCount, truncated, dataSource, childSitemapNote, crawlNote). Combined with the schema's date and searchType documentation, an agent has everything needed to call it and read the result correctly.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters4/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema coverage is only 50%, but the description compensates well for the gaps: it documents maxUrls' purpose, default 500 and ceiling 2000, the semantics of omitting startDate/endDate (last 28 settled days, data lags 2-3 days), and that sitemapUrl identifies a single sitemap. The one real omission is searchType, which is left entirely to the schema despite being an enum with non-obvious values like discover and all.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose5/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

States a specific verb and resource: it fetches one sitemap belonging to the property, extracts its URLs, and joins them with Search Console page performance over a date range. It also names precisely what it is not for (the list of submitted sitemaps) and points to list_sitemaps. An agent can distinguish it from sibling tools such as query_top_pages or list_sitemaps without opening any schema.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines5/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

Opens with an explicit trigger ('Use this when the user asks how the URLs in one sitemap perform...') and closes with an explicit exclusion plus the alternative ('Not for the list of submitted sitemaps: use list_sitemaps'). Date-range defaults are spelled out, so the agent knows it can call with only the two required parameters.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
