Search Reddit targeting

search_reddit_targeting
Read-only

Look up targeting options for draft_reddit_ad_group.

Returns ids/names to pass into the targeting lists, with the kind, the query and the total number of matches. Communities target by name, interests by id, geolocations by id (e.g. "DE" or "DE:2874225"), languages by code (e.g. "DE"), carriers by id (e.g. "O2_DEUTSCHLAND"). Devices come back as make/model pairs for the label_map of a device target. Keyword suggestions carry Reddit-wide monthly views, not search volume.

kindYesWhat to look up: "communities" (subreddits; query required), "interests" (query filters by name), "geolocations" (country ISO code and/or city query), "languages" (upper-case ISO 639-1 codes), "keywords" (comma-separated seed terms → suggestions with Reddit-wide monthly views), "community_suggestions" (Reddit's related-community picks for seed communities in query and/or a website_url), "devices" (device makes and models; query filters by make or model) or "carriers" (mobile carrier ids; query filters by name, country by country code).
limitNoMaximum number of results, clamped to 1-100.
queryNoSearch text for the chosen kind: a community search term, an interest or language name filter, a city name, comma-separated seed keywords, comma-separated seed communities for community_suggestions (e.g. "PPC,googleads"), a device make or model filter, or a carrier name filter.

TDQS

A4.1/5.0
Behavior4/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Annotations already declare read-only/non-destructive/open-world, so safety is covered. The description adds genuine value beyond that: it discloses the return shape (ids/names plus kind, query, total matches), how each kind is keyed (communities by name, interests by id, languages by code, carriers by id, devices as make/model pairs), and the "monthly views not search volume" caveat for keywords.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness4/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

Front-loads purpose, then methodically walks through the return format and per-kind key conventions in a compact block. The kind-by-kind list is somewhat dense but each clause carries distinct information and the API doc link is a useful pointer.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness4/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

For a 5-parameter, fully-covered schema with an output schema, this is essentially complete: the agent knows what it searches, what comes back, and how to feed results into targeting lists. Minor absence of pagination/rate-limit notes, but nothing blocking.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters3/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema description coverage is 100% and the kind enum values are exhaustively documented in the schema, so the description largely restates that mapping (name/id/code conventions). Baseline 3 is appropriate; it adds little parameter detail the schema does not already contain.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose5/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

States a specific verb ("Look up") and resource ("targeting options") and scopes it to "draft_reddit_ad_group", making clear this populates ad-group targeting rather than reporting on existing audiences. It is cleanly distinguished from data-retrieval siblings like get_reddit_audiences or get_demographic_targeting.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines4/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

Explains the workflow context ("Returns ids/names to pass into the targeting lists") so an agent knows this is a pre-draft lookup step feeding draft_reddit_ad_group. It does not name alternatives or state exclusions, but the intended usage is clear.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
