pptx_extract_images

Read-onlyIdempotent

Pull the pictures out of a PowerPoint (.pptx) from freedailypro as a ZIP (returned as base64), each file exactly as stored in the deck and named by slide, for example slide02_image-2-1.jpeg. Pictures that only the slide design uses (a logo on the master) are left out unless includeTemplatePictures is true; pictures on hidden slides are left out unless includeHidden is true. Errors when there are none.

Input Schema

NameRequiredDescriptionDefault
fileBase64YesThe presentation (.pptx), base64 encoded. Up to 50 MB and 500 slides. Old .ppt files and password-protected files are not supported.
includeHiddenNoInclude pictures that appear only on hidden slides. Default false.
includeTemplatePicturesNoInclude pictures used only by the master or layouts. Default false.

TDQS

A3.8/5.0
Behavior4/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

The annotations already establish that this is a safe, read-only, idempotent operation. The description adds meaningful behavioral detail beyond annotations: output is a base64 ZIP, files are named by slide, template-only and hidden-slide pictures are excluded by default, and an error occurs when no pictures exist.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness5/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

The description is front-loaded with the action and output format, then efficiently covers inclusion rules and error behavior. It uses only three sentences and each carries useful information for invoking the tool correctly.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness4/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

Because there is no output schema, the description appropriately explains the returned value as a base64-encoded ZIP and gives an example filename convention. Combined with the fully documented input schema, it covers the important behavior, though it could be slightly more explicit about the response envelope or ZIP contents.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters3/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema description coverage is 100%, so the schema already documents all three parameters, including fileBase64 constraints and the two boolean flags. The description mentions includeTemplatePictures and includeHidden and reinforces their default exclusion behavior, but adds little beyond what the schema already states.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose4/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

The description clearly states the specific action and resource: extracting pictures from a PowerPoint (.pptx) file and returning them as a base64 ZIP. It implicitly distinguishes itself from siblings like pptx_extract_text and pptx_extract_charts by focusing on pictures, but does not explicitly name or contrast with those alternatives.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines3/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

Usage is implied by the purpose and by the conditions for including template and hidden-slide pictures, but there is no explicit guidance on when to use this tool instead of sibling tools such as pptx_to_template or pptx_clean. It does explain that the tool errors when no pictures are found, which is a useful boundary condition.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
