Create notebook

fastero_create_notebook

Create an empty notebook in a project, with no cells: a document of Python and SQL code cells and markdown, run top to bottom in a fresh kernel, that keeps each cell’s output beside its code. It suits analysis people read in place; fastero_write_notebook puts the cells in. For a job of .py files run as a script with its own log, fastero_create_python_project; for an app people open in the browser, fastero_create_streamlit_app. Two notebooks may share a title. Returns the notebook with its _id.

TDQS

A4.3/5.0
Behavior4/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Adds behavior beyond the annotations: the created notebook is empty (no cells), duplicate titles are allowed ('Two notebooks may share a title'), and it returns the notebook including its _id. Annotations already cover the mutation/safety profile, so the remaining gap is only around permissions or project-existence requirements.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness4/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

Front-loads the action and the empty-notebook constraint, then routes to alternatives. The mid-sentence explanation of what a notebook is ('Python and SQL code cells and markdown, run top to bottom in a fresh kernel…') is definitional padding that a shorter clause could cover, though it does aid disambiguation.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness4/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

Three params, full schema coverage, and the description supplies the return shape ('the notebook with its _id') even without an output schema, plus sibling routing. Only error/precondition behavior (e.g., what happens with an invalid projectId) is left unstated, which is a minor gap.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters3/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema coverage is 100%, so the schema already documents name, projectId, and description; baseline is 3. The description adds one semantic fact about the name parameter (titles are not unique), but says nothing extra about projectId sourcing or the optional description.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose5/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

Opens with a precise verb+resource+state: 'Create an empty notebook in a project, with no cells,' and immediately clarifies the resource is populated by fastero_write_notebook. An agent can distinguish it from write_notebook and from the project/app creation siblings without opening a schema.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines5/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

Gives explicit routing: use fastero_write_notebook to add cells, fastero_create_python_project for script-style .py jobs with logs, fastero_create_streamlit_app for browser apps. Both the when-to-use-this and the when-to-use-a-sibling conditions are stated.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
