ExchangeRebel — pay-per-call APIs for AI agents (x402 on Solana)

sec_alerts_register_watch

Register a watch for SEC EDGAR filing alerts: a set of CIKs and/or tickers plus an optional form-type set. Paid via x402: $0.005 — RULED (5000 USDC units / 33500 SOL lamports). The $0.005 registration price is RULED (Mauricio, 2026-10-20) — the evaluation ladder figure, ruled as proposed. Always call the free preflight first (same body): POST /toll/secalerts/watch/preflight performs all validation, resolves tickers to CIKs, and returns the exact price ($0.005 — RULED) before any payment; an unresolvable ticker is a free unknown_ticker refusal, never a guess. Registration returns a watch_id (a bearer credential — possession IS read access to that watch's alerts view; there is no separate secret, no rotation, and no recovery for a lost watch_id) and its initial cursor: the watch reports only filings first seen after it was created. first_seen_at is ExchangeRebel's own detection timestamp — the moment this service first recorded the filing in its append-only store. The SEC publishes no availability timestamp, so no seller's first-seen time can be anything other than their own observation. For a filer's first-ever touch, the store is seeded from the filer's returned history and first_seen_at is the seed time (records carry seeded:true). You only pay for delivered answers — a registration that fails after settlement writes exactly one refund intent and creates no watch. Price: $0.005 per call (per watch registration). — USDC on Solana via x402 (over MCP: call without payment to get the PaymentRequired challenge, then retry with the payment at _meta["x402/payment"]). HTTP equivalent: POST https://exchangerebel.com/toll/secalerts/watch.

Input Schema

NameRequiredDescriptionDefault
ciksNoCIK strings, 1-10 digits each, at most 25 — provide ciks and/or tickers.
formsNoOptional form strings, at most 20; omit for all forms. A filter matches the exact form or its base form (8-K matches 8-K and 8-K/A).
tickersNoTicker symbols, at most 25, resolved to CIKs at registration.
amendments_onlyNoOptional, default false; filters filing events only, never deletion flags.
include_deletionsNoOptional, default false; deletion flags are produced only from records whose provenance marks them weekly-index-reconciliation-sourced.

TDQS

A4.1/5.0
Behavior5/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Goes well beyond the annotations: discloses the x402 payment flow ($0.005, payment challenge at _meta["x402/payment"], retry semantics), that watch_id is a non-rotatable bearer credential with no recovery, that only filings first seen after creation are reported, the meaning of first_seen_at and seeded:true, and that post-settlement failures write exactly one refund intent and create no watch. Nothing here contradicts readOnlyHint=false / destructiveHint=false — it is a paid, non-destructive write.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness3/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

Front-loaded and information-dense, but bloated with governance noise: the $0.005 price is stated three times, the RULED attribution and "5000 USDC units / 33500 SOL lamports" parenthetical add no actionable signal, and the SEC-availability digression pads the middle. Trimming the ruling chatter would lose no decision-relevant content.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness4/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

For a 5-param paid mutation with no output schema, the description covers return values (watch_id plus initial cursor), failure/refund behavior, and credential handling. The notable gap is idempotency: idempotentHint=false and per-registration pricing mean a duplicate call would create a second paid watch, yet the description never warns about re-registration.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters4/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema coverage is 100%, so the baseline is 3; the description adds genuine meaning on top by noting that tickers are resolved to CIKs and that an unresolvable ticker yields a free unknown_ticker refusal rather than a guess. It also frames ciks and tickers as alternative/combinable inputs ("and/or"), but adds nothing about the three boolean/forms parameters beyond what the schema already documents.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose4/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

Opens with a specific verb+resource and scope: "Register a watch for SEC EDGAR filing alerts: a set of CIKs and/or tickers plus an optional form-type set." It is immediately distinguishable from sec_alerts_poll_alerts, though it never names the polling sibling that consumes the watch_id, so routing between the pair relies on inference.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines4/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

Gives one strong, explicit prerequisite: "Always call the free preflight first (same body)" and explains exactly what the preflight does (validation, ticker resolution, price) and why it is safe to call first. However the preflight is named only by HTTP path, not by an MCP tool name present in the sibling list, and there is no guidance on when to register a new watch versus reuse/abandon an existing one.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
