Mark an article as published

mark_published

Use when you (or the user) published an article on the website or CMS yourselves, for example a site with no connected platform where articles are copied across by hand. Records the live url so Blawgy tracks the post's rankings, indexing and smart updates. The url must be https and on the site's domain or a subdomain. Nothing is sent to the CMS and no emails go out. Works on written, draft, held, failed or published articles (call again with a new url to correct it; the same url is a no-op); refused while an article is still being written or published, or before it has a body. publishedAt (ISO) is the go-live date, default now.

TDQS

A4.2/5.0
Behavior2/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Discloses a lot beyond the annotations (nothing sent to the CMS, no emails, works on written/draft/held/failed/published states, refusals before a body exists). However, 'the same url is a no-op' asserts idempotent same-argument behavior while the annotation declares idempotentHint=false, which is a direct conflict on repeat-call semantics.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness4/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

Front-loads the trigger ('Use when you...') and then packs constraints into one dense block; nearly every clause carries decision-relevant information, though the long run-on sentences and repeated parentheticals add mild friction.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness5/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

With no output schema and a mutation-style tool, the description still covers the trigger, valid article states, refusal conditions, correction behavior, side-effect profile, and URL validation rules — nothing an agent needs to call it is missing.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters4/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema coverage is already 100%, so baseline is 3, but the description adds a real constraint the schema omits: the url 'must be https and on the site's domain or a subdomain,' plus a plain-language gloss of publishedAt as the go-live date defaulting to now.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose5/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

States a specific verb and resource (records the live url of an externally published article so Blawgy tracks it) and clearly scopes itself apart from the many publish siblings like publish_draft, publish_article_from_builder, and republish_article by targeting articles published by hand outside a connected platform.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines5/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

Gives explicit when-to-use ('you or the user published an article... a site with no connected platform where articles are copied across by hand'), when-not ('refused while an article is still being written or publishing, or before it has a body'), and the correction path (call again with a new url; same url is a no-op).

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
